Opinion of Snobs
«
on:
June 24, 2011, 01:23:13 pm »
The kind of people who would scoff at others for not liking and hating the same things as them.
HP. I really find people who act like that repugnant. It's especially bothersome when they're otherwise very tolerant and liberal, as if being different is only okay if you have some sort of "excuse."

Odd, because I've noticed that a lot of people who're like that are very liberal. For example, that girl I posted about who I now know is a snob is a member of one of those No H8 groups on Facebook, and is a member of Sweden's social democrat party -- at least, the Facebook page for it. And then there are other people who are very accepting of "abnormal" behaviors like crossdressing, but who roll out the tanks as soon as someone says they like cartoons.

Snobbery on this forum is generally amusing.
"OMG, this dude wore the name of the band that's actually playing on his T-Shirt! Dude, I couldn't possibly be seen with him. Would you be seen with him?! It almost happened to me once, but luckily I caught it before I went out was able to scrape a different shirt off the bathroom floor to wear."
Don't take it so seriously, man. Whether you laugh with them or laugh at them is not as important as the fact that you can laugh.

That is a silly comparison. I dont care if librals are like that. The important thing is I am not like that. Yes, I may not have the same interest as the next person but that does not put me above or below them.

Eh. I'm not about to pretend that people that can't make coherent, cogent posts in their own native tongue should have their arguments taken seriously as those that can. (Obviously, this does not hold for non-native English speakers...just "native" English speakers that have less of a grasp on their mother tongue than non-native speakers)
Nor am I going to pretend that furries should be granted the same respect a human being is entitled to. Once you abandon humanity for the animal kingdom, I will treat you the way you clearly want to be treated.

Should this extend to culling them?

Something I can get behind. Why should I show kindness to anyone who thinks Alain de Botton is worth listening to?

As long as we're being grammar nazis, it's "those who can," not "those that can." Posters are not inanimate objects.
On the other hand, the use of that as a relative personal pronoun has a long history, and has been used by such seminal and respected writers as Geoffrey Chaucer.
Then again, Chaucer was everyman's everyman, and wasn't snobbishly going around telling us whom to take seriously.

No, it's a timeless classic.

I don't go out of my way on the furry issue (how many times have you heard me mention it?), neither does SA (they'll no longer ban people on sight for furry affiliation most of the time). Unless you're this guy:
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3045867&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1
That said, it's only because they don't come around here and there's no point in mentioning it.

Given how so many people in our awful post-materialist society are idiots or close to it, value ridiculous things such as sex, money and other random sh**t, have no appreciation let alone knowledge of stuff which matters, fail to understand the world and in some cases can't even speak/write their own native language properly; there's no reason for some people not to look down on them as the idiots they really are.
