The Libyan Council voted 50-49 on an extremely controversial vote pushed by the LIM to hold elections once a year. This would give the radical LIM the ability to try to take control of the government at a much quicker rate which could potentially mean another brutal regime. Others praised the vote as “democracy”. All Rightist candidates expressed concern over the potential of the LIM winning the Presidency and the Council.

The South Carolina primary and Nevada caucuses were held. Yankee and Duke spent the week in South Carolina while Winfield, Shua, and Wormyguy went to Nevada. Inks visited both states for a day and spent the rest of the week in Arizona before heading to Michigan.

Days before the Arizona and Michigan primaries, the House passed the “Budget Cut” bill by a near party line vote 230-198. The final version cuts $920 billion from the budget, closes tax loopholes and brings down each corporate bracket by 1% and each capital gains bracket by 1%. In turn the Dow gained 150 points ending at 12,503. Inks claimed the bill will “drastically reduce the size of government and give reason for businesses to come and stay in Atlasia.”

The Gang of Six announced they have agreed on $255 billion in cuts ranging from Atlasia’s Health Care to defense to discretionay spending and included in the bill will be major government department reforms, cutting 2% of federal workers across the board and providing incentive to departments in which the departments that are the most efficient and produce the greatest results based on OMB reports and the Congressional Budget Office will receive the fewest cuts. President Polnut, Senator Antonio and Senator Duke unveiled the plan which was applauded by the right and left, though the right still are supporting of cutting “Inks’ Trillion” as they now call it.

Senator Duke

Even though Duke worked with liberals to accomplish the cuts, he has in fact improved in polling numbers across the board, perhaps the plan was unveiled too late. If it was released earlier his bump would have won him Minnesota, a critical early state. Pundits are speculation on if President Polnut delayed on purpose to try to knock Duke out of the primaries.

The Atlasia Sentinel held a debate at the end of the month. None of the candidates managed to stand out from the back. Pundits praised the candidates for “providing solid ideas on the issues and avoiding personal and even political attacks on each other.” The issue of the night was what to cut in the budget where all candidates provided specific details.

Polnut Approvals: 52/47
Gallon of Gas: $3.89

With the House passing “Ink’s Trillion” and the Senate passing the “Gang of Six” budget reduction plans, both will move to a conference committee. It is likely the total amount of spending cuts will be between $350-600 billion. An increase in the debt ceiling is also on the table in order to avoid default in the future. The President, Speaker Inks, and Senators Bgwah, Yankee, Antonio, and Duke, as well as a small bi-partisan congressional delegation met to compromise. After a week of discussion a plan still has not been revealed with both sides wanting the final bill to be almost exactly like the one their chamber passed while some leftists want even less than $255 billion in cuts.

The early March Super Tuesday was held for Colorado, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. Senator Duke and Governor Winfield have put almost all their resources for this day due to the heavy pull from the northeast, the more liberal area of the country. Meanwhile Shua, Inks, and Yankee focused on Colorado and/or skipped to later states in March.

The President, Speaker Inks, and Senator Bgwah announced a deal at the Capitol. The debt ceiling would be increased by $1 trillion and there would be a total of $675 billion in spending cuts, double what the Gang of Six produced and more than half of “Ink’s Trillion”. A new congressional committee of 10 members, 5 from each party and 5 each from the House and Senate would further review greater spending cuts and ways to increase government revenue. The President announced he hoped the Congress would be able to pass even more spending cuts by the end of the year.

President Polnut

The Potomac primaries were held as well as Louisiana. Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. all voted. There will be a battle for the south in Louisiana between Inks and Yankee and a battle for Maryland between Winfield and Duke.

Survey Atlasia announced a joint debate with a major conservative network right before the Illinois, Missouri, Georgia primaries. This debate will be extremely important for Inks and Yankee in Georgia, Winfield, Shua, and Duke in Illinois, and everyone who will have a hand in Missouri.

The “Atlasian Budget Reduction Act” was signed into law by President Polnut at the White House. He was joined by the entire Gang of Six, the Majority and Minority leaders, and House congressional leaders. The President stated this was “a great step toward compromise. We’re finally moving forward, conservatives and liberals, rightists and leftists. This is a wonderful accomplishment and I look forward to more in the coming years.”

I will stay and I will fight!” –Congressman Wormyguy

Speaker Inks was rushed to the hospital 2 days before Texas and Ohio voted for a severe heart attack in Ohio. There were rumors in the first 12 hours that Inks had died, however he did survive. 24 hours later it was released that the heart attack would not impair his abilities to be on the campaign or serve as President. Other reports conclude that the heart attack was partly caused by stress of being on the campaign trail and serving as Speaker of the House. Inks made a statement the morning of the Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont primaries saying he would stay in the race. A doctor will now always be present and with Inks on the campaign trail as he recovers and campaigning will be limited for the next two weeks despite important primaries.

President Polnut announced an economic recovery project, stating he wanted to work with Congress to create a better business environment. “Our markets our going up, but unemployment is not going down fast enough. We need to utilize our industries to create the best environmental friendly business sector we can that will produce clean jobs. We need more jobs and to do that we need to reform business regulation and the tax code.”

I'm not, I set out the schedule weeks ago and RL states have already moved around in that time frame. We also didn't know a large number of states for certain when their dates would be so I really just mixed up 08 and 2012 to create a random schedule.

The Tennessee, Oklahoma, Maine, and California primaries were held. Yankee focused his forces in Tennessee and Oklahoma, not even sending a dime to Maine. Winfield and Duke battled for California and Maine with a heavy emphasis on the former. Shua spent most of his time in Maine as well as California, hoping to easily pick up a state. Wormyguy staked out Maine and Inks spent his time in Oklahoma even though he was actually campaigning for only one day. The campaign did release a statement saying they were focusing on fundraising to continue through the primary campaign.

Tens of thousands of workers went on strike in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania from the auto and machinery industries demanding wage increases for their long hours. Some workers claimed to be working 11 hours a day 6 days a week. Business leaders claim the 15% raise they are asking for is impossible in the economy and will “lead to an entirely bankrupted industry which in turn will destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs.”

Workers in Illinois on strike

Senator Duke made a statement in support of the workers, “They work long hours, more than many in the country, and yet make less than $11 an hour for some. This is unfair. There needs to be a balance between labor rights and business productivity and right now it isn’t balanced.” Senators Yankee and Shua supported the businesses saying it would be impossible for them to give all their workers more than a 2% raise and stay alive in the economy. Congressman Wormyguy stated the government has no right being in the private sector and should stay out of the conversation. Speaker Inks refrained from a statement. Governor Winfield actually traveled to Illinois to meet with both workers, union leaders, and business leaders saying he was “certain there can be a compromise that will keep the industry strong while giving an honest living for these hard working Americans.”

The Presidential primary debate was held two nights before the Illinois, Missouri, and Georgia primaries. Speaker Inks did attend and stated he was ready to be back on the campaign trail full time. The main issue of the night was the economy including jobs, outsourcing, labor rights, minimum wage laws, and tax brackets. Senator Yankee took a hard hit at the President, “He can pretend to be a moderate, and he does a good job. But the truth is, what we just cut in the budget, is nothing compared to our debt, is nothing compared to the spending gained in his first two years in office. He’ll cut taxes back by a minimal margin and sell it to the public, but I know everyone in this room is smarter than that. We’re not going to fall for fake compromise, we need drastic reform or this country will fall behind. We absolutely can do it, we can move forward, and we can turn this government around once and for all!”

The night before the primaries Governor Winfield unveiled a plan with business and union leaders in Chicago. The auto and machinery industries will give a 5% raise for all employees and an addition 1.5% raise each year for the next four years if profits all for it. And the 1.5% raises will start from the bottom and work their way up to corporate level. Nine major companies joined the agreement which meant raises for 75,000 workers. The major strike officially ended which had protests of a total of 40,000 participants. Strikes still continue for some companies that did not reach an agreement, but that totaled in less than 3,000 workers on strike.

President Polnut announced an economic recovery plan which would cut corporate taxes for every bracket. Business leaders applauded the President’s initiative but complained the cuts were not enough to stir the economic growth the President wanted. President Polnut expressed his desire to bring unemployment down to 7% by the fall. The plan also included $100 billion in discretionary cuts over the next five years, half coming from defense. President Polnut said he consulted the Joint Chief of Staff, Secretary of Defense, and multiple generals and have been assured the military can make reforms to save billions over the next decade.

President Polnut

Current Corporate Taxes:
Percentage of:   Taxable Income
15%             $0 - $50,000
25%            $50,000 - $75,000
34%            $75,000 - $100,000
39%                   $100,000 - $335,000
34%              $335,000 - $10,000,000
35%            $10,000,000 - $15,000,000
38%            $15,000,000 - $18,333,333
35%            $18,333,333+

The new proposal
Corporate Taxes:
   Percentage of:   Taxable Income
12%                  $0 - $50,000
23%                  $50,000 - $75,000
30%                  $75,000 - $100,000
31%                  $100,000 - $335,000
33%                  $335,000 - $10,000,000
34%                  $10,000,000 - $15,000,000
34.5%            $15,000,000 +

The candidates took hits at the President that the cuts did not go far enough both in taxes and spending. Speaker Inks boldly proposed dropping the corporate tax rate to a flat rate of 12%, thereby having the lowest corporate tax rate in the world. He claimed this would stimulate the economy, job growth, and would bring unemployment down to 4 or 5%.

Senator Duke began a world tour for foreign policy. The campaign hoped to reenergize the campaign and dominate foreign policy issues in order to come in strong and win the critical state of Pennsylvania. Duke’s tour will be a week long and he will start a visit in Libya, then Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. Senator Duke said he hoped to talk to government officials in Syria about allowing for peaceful demonstrations against the government. Currently Syria has been cracking down and protestors, shutting down cities and even killing, detaining, and torturing some. The campaign will miss the Kansas, Idaho, and Nebraska primaries.

Senator Duke planned to meet with President al-Assad to discuss government reforms. 70,000-100,000 protestors took to the streets in Damascus hoping to utilize Duke’s publicized visit to their advantage. Senator Duke’s car was stopped due to the large crowds. During this time protestors rushed security force’s barricades and Syrian security forces opened fire on protestors. The streets turned to panic and chaos as there were multiple reports that protestors had weapons and returned fire to security forces. Senator Duke, his staff, driver, and interpreter were taken from their car by a mob. 1 hour later the news had gone worldwide, Senator Duke’s whereabouts was still unknown.

Protests in Damascus

2 hours later the White House announced it is currently working through channels with the Syrian government to find Senator Duke. Protests turned violent in six other major cities and continued to spread throughout Syria. Most protestors are unarmed, but they are coming out in overwhelming numbers. Damascus is beginning to be locked down with security forces taking the city back block by block. It is estimated 900 protestors have already been killed and wounded with hundreds more being detained.

3 hours after the disappearance Secretary of State Ben Constine announced he is in communications with the Syrian Government. Syrian now called rebels took control of a military barracks near Damascus and are holding Syrian forces as hostages.

Secretary of State Ben Constine

4 hours later news networks release footage of 2,000 unarmed protestors in Damascus being surrounded and massacred by Syrian security forces. President Polnut announced violence like this would not stand and stated he would push for UN sanctions on Syria. He also announced the freezing of all Syrian assets controlled by the US. Polnut stated his support of Syrian protestors and rebels who’s goal is to “liberate Syria from oppression and deliver a new peaceful and democratic government that the Syrian people will never again have to fear.”

President Polnut

Those on Capitol Hill expressed concerns of cutting off ties with Syria with Senator Duke still missing. Meanwhile rebels have claimed to have captured Hama, Homs, Banias and numerous other towns and villages in the northeast.  Lebanon announced its full support of Syrian rebels and have created a military build-up on the border to prevent the overflow of violence into Lebanon and to provide protection to refugees fleeing the Syrian government.  President al-Assad made a televised speech to the nation stating these acts of violence will not stand and promised to crush those who are opposed to the security of Syrian and the Syrian people.

5 hours later a video was released on the internet. Senator Duke was seen with his staff speaking. “I want you all to know I am safe and everyone who came with me on this trip is with me an safe as well. I would like to thank Syrian rebels who aided us from the violence and provided us assistance and safety. It is too dangerous to disclose my location at this time, but I want the entire world to know, there is a movement happening now in Syria, and it is critical the entire world stand by the Syrian people who fight for a free society. Now is the time to act. These next 24 hours are crucial to the future of Syria, the Middle East, democracy, and humanity. I urge all nations, especially Atlasia to assist these rebels. It is clear to me the Syrian government will not make reforms on their own, therefore it is up to the people and the world to make the reforms themselves. Do not abandon our long lost friends.” –Senator Duke

Senator Duke

Hours later Senators Yankee, Bgwah, Speaker Inks, and President Polnut announced an emergency session of Congress for tomorrow to vote on a bill giving military support to Syrian rebels. Critics state the rebels are unorganized and it is unknown what their intentions are, who their leadership is, and what a new regime will mean. President Polnut stated he would go to the UN for approval for military action, but would give monetary funding through the bill tomorrow to Syrian rebels lead by Sheikh Anas al-Ayrout of Banias.  Polnut also confirmed Senator Duke is safe and all ties have been cut with the Syrian government.

President Polnut

An estimated 2-4 million protestors and rebels have taken to the streets all over Syria. Syrian security forces have taken back most of Damascus, but other cities nearby have been taken by rebels. The greatest amount of fighting is in the east, both in the Northeast where rebels have been most successful and the southeast, closest to Damascus. The UN announced it would hold an emergency session in 3 days.

The next day Congress passed $30 million in funding for Libyan rebels and an additional $70 million once the UN approved military action. The next day later Senator Duke made it out of Syria to Rome and made a public appearance supporting the rebels. He then traveled back to Atlasia. An estimated 30,000 protestors and rebels have been killed in the past 3 days, 3,000 security forces have also been killed. Rebel and civilian causalities have fallen sharply in cities now controlled or mostly controlled by rebels. There are concerns terrorist groups will and are exploiting the chaos to carry out operations and position themselves to work with rebels and thus gain status in a new regime. The United Nations Security Council voted to approve military action. Russia and China abstained from the vote. NATO would use its airpower mainly supported by Atlasia, France, and Britain while UN peacekeepers would be deployed in rebel controlled cities to help maintain public order as Syrian rebels formed a government and a better fighting organization.

Iranian soldiers have entered northwestern Syria to join with Syrian security and military forces in controlling the cities in the region. Rebels were gaining substantial ground until Iran joined the conflict. Atlasia, NATO, and nations around the world condemned Iran for militarily supporting the al-Assad regime.
