I had hopes for Nikki Haley.  She seemed like a bright young face, and while I expected she'd make mistakes, at least they wouldn't be the ones Mark Sanford made.  The most egregious mistake Sanford kept making year after year was needlessly antagonizing the General Assembly over the budget.  Not that I expect or want a governor to be a doormat to the General Assembly on the budget, but he seemed to go out of his way to antagonize them with his handling of budget vetoes so as to ensure he'd be overridden. As you can see below, Haley hasn't learned that.

The State - June 30, 2011
Lawmakers quickly override most of Haley’s vetoes
They uphold only $507,000 of governor’s $213 million in proposed cuts

She's escaping her SLED detail and banging some Argentinian pool boy on the side?

Ernest, isn't South Carolina's Governorship one of the weakest in the nation?

Yes, and that's after several reforms the past couple of decades the past few decades.  I truly think that if it were not that every other state follows the U.S. Constitution's example of divided powers, South Carolina would have ended up with parliamentary government.

No, I don't think she's aiming specifically for the Veep slot, tho she'd probably accept if offered.  Rather I think she is showing herself to be the type of politician who doesn't have a firm grasp on how to govern, so she stays in permanent campaign mode.
