http://politicalwire.com/archives/2011/06/30/kansas_to_shut_down_all_abortion_clinics.html

"A normally obscure board in Kansas unanimously approved new regulations Thursday for abortion providers, moving the state closer to becoming the first in the nation without a clinic or doctor's office performing the procedures," the AP reports.

Mother Jones: "The new law, which takes effect Friday, establishes new standards for abortion providers--standards apparently designed to make compliance difficult. The rules require changes to the size and number of rooms, compel clinics to have additional supplies on hand, and even mandate room temperatures for the facilities. Given that the rules were released less than two weeks before clinics were expected to be in compliance, many providers knew they wouldn't be able to obtain a license to continue operating."

It's the number of states that have the intestinal fortitude to tell roe v wade where to go. As for your perjorative, the next time I planning to even kiss a girl is sometime between getting engaged and when the pastor says I can kiss her at the wedding (most likely at the wedding)

...And how long before this gets struck down by a federal judge?

I've got to give Kansas some credit for creativity at least. At least they're trying.

That was Houston. Right in the middle of a bunch of minority neighborhoods.

I'm always fascinated by the times when Republicans all of a sudden start crusading for the rights of the poor minorities.

Sorry...  Just setting my watch.  Its like clockwork Cheesy

Yes, we need to criminalize all abortions so this child can be brought into its cruel, hopeless existence:

Kansas to become the first abortion-free state

Puts me in mind of those union shop signs from the 70s and 80s.

Like, you see the sign that proudly announces  "MONSANTO:  Accident-free since 1972."

knowing that as you read it they're probably rushing some schmuk who are asphyxiated from an azide explosion out the back door to a private hospital.

KANSAS:  Abortion free since 2011.

(Toto, if anybody asks, you can say that we're not technically in Kansas anymore.  Got it?)

Of course, same as people still live in Oklahoma.  You should know that, unless you've escaped T-town.

I've been rather inactive here the past 3 weeks, so I might have missed something.

But, anyway, I applaud Kansas for defending the Bible, but to say that NOBODY can get an abortion legally, is a little overboard.  What about medical crises or rape or incest cases?  I don't agree with the pro-choice crowd who wants a complete reversal of this decision (though that will probably happen), I would rather see a compromise of some kind.

You do realize that banning abortions has little effect on women getting them? It just means they'd be performed by unqualified back-room physicians, putting the mother's life in danger. A truly pro-life person such as myself would push for better education (that means comprehensive sex education) and urban development, lowering unwanted pregnancies and therefore making abortions as rare but as safe as possible.

Exactly how I think.  While I don't like abortions, I do support Roe as, if nothing else, it makes an abortion safer.  I do support it in cases of extreme medical crises, such as the life of the baby is in danger. I believe in this case, the life of the baby slightly outweighs the life of the mother, especially if the baby can survive even if the mother's life is in danger.  Of course, I want every measure to be taken to make sure that both lives are preserved and the quality of life not diminished, but the life of the baby slightly outweighs the life of the mother. I think when a woman gets pregnant, she's symbolically placing the needs of the child above most anything else, including her own.  It is a really tough call, and I would not want to have to make that decision. It's easy for me to say, because I've never been faced with that decision. Armchair quarterbacking ( or in this case, armchair lawmaking) is real easy, but actually playing the game is not.

Again, as I said in my previous post, I like where the Sunflower State is coming from, but I don't really like how they are going about doing it.  I think they are taking it too far, and potentially endangering the lives and health of their citizens in the process.  I would support a heavily restricted abortion process, but not illegal, because it would cause many back alley abortions with unsterile and contaminated utensils.

They're not making it illegal. They're regulating it.
