[EDIT by Mr. Morden: I've merged this with other fundraising topics.  The OP refers to Huntsman.]

He got 4 million bucks, not including his PAC, putting him on par with that guy from Minnesota, even though he only announced a couple weeks ago.

Could his better looks and superior fundraising-to-name-recognition ratio help rocket him to the #2 white guy place, edging out Minnesota dude once and for all?

It's a shame there is nothing about Bachmann in the article.

Well, just wait another week or 2, then we'll have all the filings.

...

BTW, Obama doesn't seem to have problems with grass-roots donors.

As of midnight yesterday, Obama had 493.697 donors for the quarter.

Seems like Obama's outraising the entire GOP field put together (unless Bachmann is doing very well).

To be expected, most of the primary giving will be pissed away.  Republicans are saving up for the general.

Bachmann was raising a ton of money even before she ran.  She should top out Romney as the #1 $$$er in 2011.

My random prediction
1. Romney(!)
2. Paul
3. Bachmann
4. Huntsman
5. Pawlenty
6. Gingrich
7. Cain
8. Santorum

I'm particularly interested in what Cain's fundraising will be.  Likely to be weak, but you never know. I am kind of pulling for him to beat Gingrich.

This list seems about right, though I wouldn't be surprised if Bachmann takes number 2. Question though, is Paul's "let's go for 5 million!" counting the ENTIRE quarter or JUST that specific money bomb? because that would drastically change his placing depending on the two.

Romney's total has to be seen as disappointing.  When you run as the candidate that will drown out the other candidates through a tidal wave of cash, you need, well, a tidal wave.

Could someone with a bit more patience than I have compare these with the 2004 Democratic and 2008 Democratic and Republican numbers?

I've merged the three 2nd quarter fundraising #s threads together.  I've also stickied this, because we'll continue to get these news stories about 2nd quarter fundraising for the next two weeks, and there's no reason to keep starting new threads about it.  After that, I'll unsticky it.

How many of the numbers being quoted here are actual figures reported by the campaigns, and how much is media guesswork?

For example, Pawlenty says he raised $4.2 million:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58221.html

Huntsman says $4.1 million, but almost half of that is his own money (so he didn't really "raise" all $4 million):

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/58160.html

Have any of the other campaigns released specific numbers yet, or are the other numbers just educated guesses?

Quite a couple days for claims coming from Romney and his campaign.

Well, I can do the latter.  Here's the corresponding thread from 2007:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=59271.0

Who the hell gives all that money to Obama? What a waste of your dough for a two-year Senator!

Not all the numbers are in yet, especially for the 2nd/3rd tier candidates, but here's what we have so far (in terms of *primary* $ raised in Q2):

Obama $31 m
Clinton $21 m
Edwards Huh $9 m, but that includes some unspecified amount for the GE
Richardson $7 m
Dodd $3.25 m
Biden $2.4 m
Kucinich $757,000

Giuliani $15 m
Romney $14 m + $6.5 m contributed by himself
McCain Huh$11.2 m, but that includes some unspecified amount for the GE
Paul $2.4 m
F. Thompson Huh campaign insiders claim it'll be "at least $2 million"
Brownback $1.5 m
Huckabee $764,000
T. Thompson $461,000

No word yet from Gravel, Hunter, or Tancredo.

It should be noted that McCain's $11.2 million was seen as a massive disappointment, as he'd been aiming for something like $20 million.  His campaign had been spending lavishly, as if they were expecting to raise $20 million, and this was when his campaign basically imploded.

Its the whole quarter, but apparently a bunch of the donations didn't reach the ticker so it is at least 4.5 million but probably higher.

for the 08 numbers keep in mind we had candidates in the race by the end of 2006. Really we could compare Q1 numbers to this as well

OK, here are some 1st quarter fundraising #s on the GOP side from 2007:

Some new numbers from the second tier candidates on the GOP side are coming in:

link

It now looks like:

Romney $23 million
Giuliani $15 million
McCain $12.5 million
Brownback $2 million
Huckabee $500,000
Hunter $500,000
T. Thompson $400,000
Gilmore $200,000

So Brownback ends up coming in fourth.

(And again, an unspecified portion of the Giuliani and McCain totals is general election money, which can't be used in the primary.  I don't think any of the other Republicans are already raising general election $.)

Herman Cain Hauls In $2.46M In Fundraising, ‘No Debt’

Former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain is a grassroots sensation on the 2012 presidential campaign trail. Now we know what that looks like as a dollar figure: Cain brought in $2.46 million in campaign contributions, a number the campaign tells TPM it expects to see rise to closer to $2.48 when all the final reporting is done.

"It's not Mitt Romney money, it's not [President] Obama money, but we're excited," spokesperson Ellen Carmichael told TPM late Friday night.

Cain, wealthy from his experience running Godfather's as well as other successful business enterprises, has put in some of his own cash as "seed money" for the campaign, Carmichael said. But she said that the amount Cain has contributed pales in comparison to the $2 million or so former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman gave his own campaign, which reported just over $4 million in total fundraising today.

I expect that Obama raised about 60-75 Mio. in the quarter for him and for the DNC.

I guess it will be about 50 Mio. for his re-election campaign and 25 Mio. for the DNC.

Obama had 35 fundraisers this quarter, so I guess the average haul for each of these events was about 1 Mio. - which makes about 35 Mio. from fundraisers.

Obama also had 500.000 contributors in the quarter, who made 660.000 contributions.

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

That was an average amount of 180$ per donor.

I assume that this amount has decreased from 2007 mostly because of the economy and because the motivation in 2007 to contribute to the Obama campaign was much bigger.

So I estimate that each donor donated about 50-80$ to the Obama campaign.

This makes about 25-40 Mio. $ from online donors.

Put together, fundraisers and online donors will have contributed about 60-75 Mio. $
