PRESS RELEASE
The President has recently made a comment in relation to the upcoming Presidential Race.
Quote
"In the last election when faced with a vote between a political ally and someone who I thought not only wanted the job, but would do it well, that election was a difficult choice for me. In fact, I wonder if I had been more publicly supportive of who I voted for, we could have been spared a very disappointing administration.
This election is far, far harder.
On one hand we have Governor Napoleon, who is without doubt a capable and enthusiastic person. Who has worked very hard to bring the Northeast back to life.
On the other, we have Oakvale, who is a personal friend, but also someone who has shown that working across the aisle and reaching compromises are central, and has recognised that as primary role for a president.
If it were possible to mix the two, I'd be in total heaven.
I want the other to know, that by endorsing one, it is not a disendorsement of the other. I feel very comfortable that either of these two men would be great presidents, albeit with a very different style.
Therefore, I wish to announce that I will be personally endorsing Oakvale as the next President of Atlasia. I believe he will work as moderator in the often heated debates in the Atlasian Senate and in our polity in general. I have always known him to a reasonable and balanced character with a strong belief in a pragmatic, but progressive agenda. He is not dogmatic, but still believes with conviction. He believes in fighting for what is important, but when a stalemate occurs, he reaches out to find common ground, and not trying to occupy the moral high ground. I believe Oakvale will make a good president, and one we can all be proud of.
Now, to Governor Napoleon and his supporters. In a decision like this where a considerable amount of thought has gone into this. I have gone from one side to the other over the past month. You are a force of nature in Atlasia, I believe regardless of the result, you have so much to offer this country. I just personally feel at this time, it is not as president. In fact, I think you would find the position a frustrating one. Please understand that as President you have a different perspective on this office. I respect that the Vice President has followed a different path, and I understand his reasoning. If Governor Napoleon wins this election, I will be proud to have him succeed me.
The decision I have made is mine alone, and based on a multitude of factors that has forced me to realise that I needed to make a decision and make that decision public."

PRESS RELEASE
The President will be visiting Colorado early next week, conditions permitting, to show his support for those battling the wildfires as well as those directly affected.
The President also wishes to extend his support to the Senators who upheld his veto on the private education tax credit Bill. The Bill created numerous loopholes and was far too simplistic, ignored issues of accreditation and undermined the regional prerogative on education. As someone who was educated entirely in the public education system, he resents attempts to make public education as the 'worst-case scenario' for parents. If the Senate was serious about this issue why not help to make public education stronger - in reality not through an ideological default.

As another product of exclusively public schools, I believe government should act in the interests of students and parents, not in the interest of the public school system... while the two often are the same- I don't believe we should ever place the latter over the former

This issue should be pursued through the regions. I do have a problem with the state saying (which it would through this Bill) private education is the best option... rather than making sure parents and students are equally served through the public system.
Even if we stood aside - the Bill is a disaster for legal challenges and abuse of the system.

The first point's been argued and would be pointless to argue again here... But with regards to your second- I don't think any one would appreciate a hundreds-page bill on here. I don't think any one would read it or write it- hell if I would! Bills on the web are more general because this is a Fantasy board and don't affect actual people... I respect ideological criticism but blasting the bill for being too simplistic isn't right

PRESS RELEASE AND LEGISLATIVE REQUEST
The President is deeply distressed by the significant backlog in veterans support applications being approved. This is not however an issue of 'bureaucracy', but a combination of an increased number of veterans with severe injuries and other related needs and the conditions we have placed on them. The onus of proof for these applications is on the veteran to provide considerable paperwork, which requires equally time-consuming processing. With applicants waiting up to a year for even a response, this is a crisis in support for those who have given of themselves for their fellow citizens.
Considering that most tax returns are accepted and processed with almost no overt investigation, but with the threat of audit there to promote honesty in this process, there is no reason why this kind of system should not be applied to veteran support service applications.
Therefore the President request the Senate debate and pass with all due haste this Bill.
------
The Veteran Support Reform Bill 2012
From 1 January 2013 all applications through any Federal Government veteran support payment or service will be made in the same format as Federal Income Taxation, accepted with audit threat.
This will require support for the relevant agencies, in both resources and the development of processing soft and hardware. This Bill will appropriate $15 million over the next 2 years to install new computer equipment and the engagement of appropriate staff, although re-assignment from existing employment pools will be given priority.
From 1 January 2013, all applications will be made up of an application, either on paper, or electronic, with a letter from a registered medical official or other registered related official to verify the claim. The applicant should be prepared to provide additional documentation, if the application is insufficient. An audit process of a random 2% of applications will be made annually.
Until 1 January 2013, new standards will be applied from 1 August 2012 to any existing or new applications.
* The applicant must be a verified service member, with claim-related conditions being registered on their service file
* The applicant must provide a letter from a registered official outlining their condition and needs
* If the application meets those two basic criteria, the claim will be paid within 30 days
* An audit of 2% of all applications received until 31 December 2012 will be held and severe penalties, including the cessation of payment and possible criminal prosecution will be incurred from any fraudulent activities.
