Those are some powerful observation skills you have there. Tongue

Speaking of observation skills, if you look really closely at the Bay Area in California you'll notice that San Francisco swung heavily to Bob Dole.  Fascinating.

That's strange. The county as a whole swung toward Clinton according to the Atlas.

Hmmm, here's what the 1998 Almanac of American Politics said about CA-8:

1992:

75% Clinton

16% Bush Snr.

8% Perot

1996:

66% Clinton

18% Dole

4% Perot

12% other

I forgot that Ralph Nader was on the ticket.  But still, I wonder why The Atlas shows it swinging to Clinton.  My paid account expired, so I can't see the percentages.

Your numbers are right Fuzzy.

The Atlas shows CA-08 at 65.98% Clinton in 1996 and 74.95% in 1992.

On a different topic, I've started 1978.  I hope to have it up soon.

[From 1984-1988] Wow, even fewer swing R CD's on that map than I had thought.

That seems even less than 1976-1980 or 1996-2000. Perhaps only 1972-1976 is lower.

1998 is in progress.  Just a heads up, Virginia and North Carolina were redrawn that year.

Here's a congressional map showing which districts split tickets and such during the 1988 Congressional and Presidential Elections

Dark Blue=CD where Bush Snr. won/GOP Representative

Light Blue=CD where Bush Snr. won/Dem Representative

Dark Red=CD where Dukakis won/Dem Representative

Light Red=CD where Dukakis won/GOP Representative
