From my experience, they tend to be rather obnoxious.  There are a few decent older posters, however, who have chosen to go without avatars.

Some don't identify with any party and the Indy option is a hideous hideous puke green.

CARL used to be one for the longest time.

Only thing worse than having no avatar is having one from Indiana.

He probably didn't want to double down on the long-standing lie that he was ever a Democrat.  (Although the probability that he just couldn't figure out how to do it is rather high too.)

jmfcst and angus went without for several years, too.

He destroyed the most worthwhile board on this forum (Redistricting) by himself.

Epic Freedom Fighters.
Easily the most entertaining bunch on here.  I cry every night when I go to sleep because I miss prophetman so much.

Remember when I made a batch of Indy avatars in light gray?  That went down as well as a fart at a funeral.

I personally don't have a problem with the green, though purple would be a sensible color for independents (mixture of red and blue).

Why do you assume that independents are a 'mixture' of Democrats and Republicans?

I like the current set up whereas the three primary political identities use the three primary colors.

You count Libertarians as a primary political identity?  Huh

I know this is the internet and all, but still.

I never said that, did I?  Red and Blue are the colors of the main parties, mixing them creates a different color which I find appealing.

Though I have found a lot of self-identifying "independents" fall somewhere in between the Republican hard-right and Democratic hard-left and prefer not to join either party.  Picture a graph with red on the left and blue on the right.  As you near the center, the color graph becomes more purple.

No.

Call me a traditionalist, then.
