I liked Hugh's post. I consider it to be meta-humour.

It's certainly cleverer than most of the posts in this hallowed Institute.

Is it possible that this post is serious ?

Harper's, undoubtedly. Strangely enough, human history suggests that governments with absolutely commanding majorities like Monti's tend to be less democratic than ones with severe internal divisions, particularly when the government in question was subverted by foreign technocrats.

Pray tell me... which historical examples are you thinking of precisely?

I was thinking of the Italian Social Republic when I wrote that, oddly enough.

Epic fail.

Did not the PFR have commanding majorities in Salò?

I felt good a person a few days ago, and it was great!  Only cost me about $40, and she was a very good person - 19 and cute, and a real sweetie.

What the institute really needs is some double entendre

I'm really really really surprised that the GOP hasn't made Santorum their flavor of the month yet.

Uh, Nick... the International Elections forum is officially constituted as a neo-Stalinist dictatorship. What do you think happens to people who criticise the Leader?

Opebo and Gustaf are like the two church ladies who can't stand each other and are always bickering over whose jello salad is better (Opebo's cuz it has fruits and mayonnaise in it... Gustaf just made plain gelatin and put hunks of soured fish in it).

We're tied with Washington for having the lowest childhood obesity rate in the nation at 11.1%.  Compare that to over 20% in most of the south.

So our jello salad does us just fine thank you very much.  As for sour fish... only the old Norwegian ladies eat that.  Drenched in melted butter of course.  We do enjoy Mrs. Olson's Lefse at Christmas, made in nearby Gonvick, Minnesota.  It's tasty with butter and sugar and rolled up.  Or butter and jam.  Or to dip in the gravy from the meatballs.

So to answer your question:  We eat like most northern Americans (more often roasting, baking, and braising than frying since ovens have always been a necessity here)... but we have an affinity for hotdish, jello salad, bad coffee, and cheap red wine in a regular glass with ice cubes in it.  Why?  Because it's good enough.

Obama Average Approval Rating November 2011 (Gallup)

43% Approve

49% Disapprove

Trends for comparison:

Roosevelt: 58/37 (November 1939)

Truman: 54/33 (November 1947) AND 23/61 (November 1951)

Eisenhower: 78/13 (November 1955)

Kennedy: 58/30 (November 1963)

Johnson: 42/46 (November 1967)

Nixon: 49/37 (November 1971)

Ford: 43/45 (November 1975)

Carter: 35/52 (November 1979)

Reagan: 53/37 (November 1983)

Bush I: 55/37 (November 1991)

Clinton: 52/41 (November 1995)

Bush II: 52/45 (November 2003)

Truman was popular in the fall of 47?!  When did he start cratering to fall into the 30's by the summer of 48?

The Korean War. I'm going to guess that as the front line sagged southward so did President Truman's approval rating. The war also got increasingly unpopular as it dragged on.

What could be better than that?

Well, okay, maybe gay sex.  But that's only fun if you're gay.

For the rest of us, there are Monk reruns.

I was going to answer that post with something along the lines of "So how do you toss your salad?" but then I thought better of it. It's not a thread made for arguing.

Ugh.

Wine - not really a fan. If it's good enough to drink, it's too expensive to be reasonable value.
Cheap Red Wine - Sick
Water in Wine - just goes to show it wasn't suitable for human consumption in the first place if you even think of that as an option (as they say on the Mosel about Pfalz wine, and in the Rheingau about Rhinehesse wine - "yeah well, if I'd have to drink that I might put water in it")
Ice Cubes in Wine - Go DIAF. Seriously. The world will be a happier place ever after.

No objection to the regular glass, obviously.

Pretty much all of BRTD's 'Christian' posts could be archived directly here, but it's hard to pick specific examples.

Although its humour largely depends on whether you think he's being genuine or not. If you think he is, most of it is tragicomic. If you think he's trolling, then it's horribly annoying.

Paul could win easily if he won Iowa and then exploited the weakening of Romney to win New Hampshire too... he'd basically be guaranteed the nomination from sheer momentum and no serious opposition.

Jesus, even by Paultard standards that's... amazing.

Forgot to add this at the time, I think. It may be one of the greatest posts in the history of the forum:

I AM an old geezer, actually. It seems only yesterday I watched that "Vremya" newscast where they reported on the First Congress of the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union and showed the world for the first time that Turkish-speaking ex-legal advisor for a Jewish cultural group that they've selected for the nazi-in-chief to fake multi-party politics. It was a hoot performance from the very first and he he has been a reliable stand-up act ever since.

Honestly, this probably is the right decision.  Not that skipping won't hurt Romney, but the risk of something catastrophic happening on the Donald Trump debate outweighs the harm of skipping it.

Plus, it makes Gingrich look like an idiot if he ends up being the only person there (or if it's a Gingrich v. Bachmann debate).

Don't forget Santorum! He'll be there!

Santorum is always present when an asshole meets a prick.
