There's nothing contradictory about a socially conservative libertarian.

Nothing contradictory at all about someone calling themselves part of an ideology that believes in personal freedom as well as one that attempts to ban such personal freedom?

You can be personally very socially conservative without believing that government should enforce those personal beliefs on others.

It was originally in reference to Pingvin...

Yeah Pingvin's initial statement implying he's any type of libertarian, even a supposed socially conservative one is the most absurd and actually quite funny thing about that statement.

So long as you are pro-civil liberties, etc., anti-wiretap, and the like, you are welcome to join!  Smiley
I'm a social conservative on abortion, marriage, drugs. I strongly oppose wiretapping and any kind of cenorship. Can I join?

Context:

Pretty low. He clearly had a degree of talent, but never really applied it and instead just churned out the usual uninspired society portraits and the like.

Do you think Ron Paul is capable of running as an independent candidate?

Ron Paul is capable of leaping tall buildings in a single bound, halting a powerful locomotive, and outrunning a speeding bullet.  Of course he is capable of running as an independent candidate.

[One that doesn't want to] end all foreign policy. Or literally abolish half of the federal government.

Paulites are historical revisionists. They have to be, considering that their ideology was proven not to work nearly a century ago.

The wife is not a registered voter.  She won't vote.  The boy is 7.  If he could vote, he'd be voting for more TV, a later bedtime, and violent video games.  There's also a hermit crab who lives here named Mister Frederickson.  We bought him at Petsmart about a month ago for my son.  He came with a two-week warranty.  He has outlived his warranty by at least 15 days.  To my knowledge he is fairly apolitical as well.  All of which means that 100% of my immediate family will vote for Mitt Romney.

Not so much the content of the quote, more the fact that he is trying to sell Romney by saying he would be the same as Obama.

Also, Obama's foreign policy still suits me, and some of his domestic agenda does.

I've yet to meet anyone who can seriously tell me that Obama and Romney would have different foreign policies.

Problem with Gary is that he's kind of effeminate and that could alienate the paulist vote.

yes, after all, Dr. Paul's machismo is a major draw for his supporters.

Yes, people will warm to Romney's speech some time around October of 2074, when the revisionist historians have their chance to truly examine what it really meant for people living in the year 2012.

Ok, my friends and I were watching C-Span and were playing a drinking game with Michelle's speech. Whenever they showed a white guy in the crowd (or a woman with a flamboyant hat) we drank. We much more after 1 minute of the prayer then during the whole speech.

You're not going to last a minute on any drinking game if the target is "showing a white guy on TV."

Instagram crashed...maybe do to the DNC?

More likely due to an overload of Labor Day BBQ leftovers pictures.

So you're living in Layton now? This is crazy - I literally have a brother who lives in Layton. I'll be sure to warn them of your arrival. Wink

One more fat guy bevy-ing up to the food-bar at the Ryan's steak-house more or less isn't going to make any difference.

Throw money at the problem, like he always has.

Crush Obama in the debates. Or at least try to.

Even better, throw money at "the problem" during the debates. I could easily see Mitt getting all flustered and then proceed to pull out $100 bills, fold them into paper airplanes and toss them at the President.

Roscoe Bartlett has a PhD from the University of Maryland...

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Bartlett actually founded the University of Maryland.

Very good speech.

I stumbled upon it.  I'd been watching Monster's Ball on IFC.  Excellent sex scenes between Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Barry.  During a commercial I switched it to channel 27, CNN, and I saw a montage of Bill Clinton moments.  I realized that he was about to speak.  On the one hand, I thought, "Aw, man.  If I start watching this now, I'm gonna be sucked in for at least an hour.  If there's one thing Clinton is known for, it's looooong speeches."  On the other hand, I thought, "Well, if there's a second thing he's known for, it's good speeches."  So I got myself a stiff drink, sat in the recliner, and watched it.  In toto.  Well, except the two times I needed to pee.  Yes, it was that long.  I peed twice.

Nevertheless, it was a damned good speech.  Humorous yet serious.  He has such an endearing hillbilly act, even as he has a command of facts and figures.  If anyone actually watches this stuff, I have to imagine that they're questioning the Romney vision by now.  It was powerful stuff.

Overall, I'll have to give it a 10.

I'm just kind of surprised Mitt Romney of all people could elicit such a strong reaction from anyone.
