Is there any reason why some people are so afraid to leave the country (namely Republicans)?

I've been to Australia, Canada, France, Luxembourg, Monaco, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Italy.

Not all of us are wealthy enough to go galavanting around the world,  like most of you Democrats

I thought we all were poor, unsuccessful African-Americans living in downtown Chicago

LOL. I don't think most poor, unsuccessful African-Americans living in downtown Chicago is a wing of Democratic voters that actually cares that much about politics, anyways.

If you haven't been outside the U.S. you need to give it a try.  One thing travel will quickly do is disabuse you of that notion 'land of the free'.  The U.S. isn't so bad, but it is far, far down the list in terms of personal freedoms.

I'll agree that if you haven't been outside the US or are afraid to go, you should give it a shot.  But I take the opposite view of Opebo: you'll likely be damn glad to be back in the US, especially if you visit some of these other nations as anything more than a tourist.  Such travel will make you thankful to be in this country.

I think I'll have to second J-Mann here...

I grew up overseas (England and Singapore)--and it really does make you more patriotic and prouder to be an American.  Those little things you take for granted--the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, uniform traffic laws, free speech [no matter what opebo may say].

Although I do sort of miss London...

As for the full list:
Canada
Mexico
Costa Rica
Panama
Netherlands Antilles
British West Indies
Barbados
UK
Ireland
France
Monaco
Belgium
Germany
Netherlands
Denmark
Italy
Singapore
Malaysia
Indonesia
Thailand
Hong Kong
Australia
New Zealand
South Korea

For those of you who haven't been overseas...go to Europe, if you can afford it.  Don't worry...the natives won't bite (usually).

quite a few of you have been down under Smiley

How was it, and did you try Melbourne? It's much better then Sydney, although the harbour up there is spectacular.

The best travel experience in my life was going underneath the sydney harbour bridge at dusk (to Manly), and then back at nighttime. It was stunning.

Canada, and technically Denmark as I was in the Dutch Virgin Islands (St. Maarten).

Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the French side of the island.
I hope you mean Holland.

Mexico is beautiful, too.  You just have to go down into the country a few miles.  There are some gorgeous mountains south of Monterrey that are qoite unique.

Since when did Denmark own something that was Dutch?

Speaking of Dutch, outisde of Canada I have been to the Netherlands and the U.S. (Virginia, NY, Maine, NH, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and drove through WV and Maryland)

I like Nym ;-) So many mistakes with so few words. US Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix used to be Danish West Indies (St. John was called St. Jan). I always wonder just how Americans pronounce Charlotte Amalie, the capital of US Virgin Islands and Danish queen maried to Christian V (1670-1699)

Oh and it is very hard to find a Dane that hasn't been outside the country. I've been to:

Norway
Iceland
Sweden
Germany
Netherlands
Belgium
Luxembourg
France
UK
Italy
Austria
Slovenia
Croatia
Serbia-Montenegro (Or whatever it is called this week)
Bulgaria
Rumania
Czech Republic
Slovakia
USA
South Africa

As said it is very easy to travel abroad for a Dane. A few hours in a car, train or aeroplane and usually it is cheaper because of the high consumer prices in Denmark (and high pay, minimum wage is 13+ $)

This was worth bumping a thread from 2004 just to say that?
