If you haven't been outside the U.S. you need to give it a try. One thing travel will quickly do is disabuse you of that notion 'land of the free'. The U.S. isn't so bad, but it is far, far down the list in terms of personal freedoms.
I think I'll have to second J-Mann here...
I grew up overseas (England and Singapore)--and it really does make you more patriotic and prouder to be an American. Those little things you take for granted--the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, uniform traffic laws, free speech [no matter what opebo may say].
Although I do sort of miss London...
