votes republican? Granted, most black athletes keep their political views (if any) to themselves. But of the ones that didn't, most of them seemed to donate to republicans. Guys like Spencer Tillman, JC Watts, Tiki Barber are all known republicans. This is some thing I've always been shocked by. What is your opinion on this?

This isn't true at all. Most famous black athletes who make their views known are Democrats. Maybe the 10-15% are Republicans.

They're mostly Democrats, but it's plausible that they're a bit more Republican due to their wealth.

Black Republicans are usually either rich folk or very religious. Of course, most affluent blacks, and even most politically active black athletes, are still Democrats.

Try listing three non-athlete black Republicans.

On the other hand, black Democratic politicians off the top of my head:

Barack Obama
Carol Moseley Braun
Jim Clyburn
Charlie Rangel
Bobby Rush
Deval Patrick
Cynthia McKinney
Blanche Lincoln (lol gporter)
Eric Holder (technically not a politician, but close enough)

And that's not counting the oodles of Black Belt politicians whose names elude me (most of them aren't too important). Oh yeah, and that one Virginia governor.

I think the fact that you're shocked means that you stereotype Blacks as Democrats and reliant on govt programs.

Prior to LBJ and FDR, Blacks were diehard Republicans because of Lincoln; and Southern Democrats supported segregation.  Sure Nixon employed his Southern Strategy against Blacks in the 70's, but that was 40 years ago.

Reagan was very popular and won all but 2 states so many people became Reagan Democrats.  It was only during Bill Clinton's years that people started coming back to the Democratic Party.

Therefore, a lot of wealthy Blacks are Reagan Republicans who are primarily concerned about Fiscal issues rather than social Black issues.  I think Race is not as big of an issue as it was 40 years ago.  There is certainly more education and opportunity available to Black Americans than ever.

I don't think it's a stereotype that most black people are Democrats....or if it is, it's an unusually accurate one.  I bet more black people vote for Democrats than eat, say, watermelon.

Nine players, six whom also contributed to the Obama campaign, contributed to the DNC. These players included some of the biggest stars in the league including LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, Emeka Okafor and Baron Davis.

Those last three aren't stars.  Please don't insult my League.

I read a poll from Navy times after the 2004 election that had about 40% of the black military officer vote going GOP.  Blacks associated with majority white evangelical churches, schools, etc are often Republican.

Because the NBA isn't a joke.  It's the best league out there.

I always thought that  Keyes' appointment as Ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council was one of Ronald Reagan's best moments....
