Some of my random thoughts...
Japan has more faith in the US than the US does
of all the nations polled, Turkey has the worst view of the US?  Worse than Pakistan, worse than Jordan...worse even than Gaza and the West Bank...sheesh.  And Kenya loves us!
The Ukraine likes the PRC more than the USA?  Weird.  Brazil and Mexico like us better...which I found a little weird too.

For sure almost everyone here in Thailand seems to assume China is already replacing the US as the dominant power in the world, and the US is seen as a clearly failing/declining power and economy.

Looking at past data in Pew I found out that in 2010 Argentina had ratings of 45% favorable and 28% unfavorable of China. Talking about the USA we had a 42% favorable and 41% unfavorable opinion of the country. And this was the first time at least since 2002 that the favorable rating of the US is higher than the unfavorable rating.

And a 24%-34% about Russia and 13%-51% opinion of Iran Tongue

EDIT: oh and 43% also thought that the US was still the world's economic power against 24% who thought that of China

Funny how the United States' popularity was cut in half in countries like Germany, Spain, and  France with the switch from Clinton to Bush and then doubled again with Obama taking over.

One-third of the population is pro-American, one-third of the population is anti-American, and one-third simply hates Republicans and loves Clinton/Obama. Tongue

On the other hand, the political affiliation of the president doesn't have much effect in places like Poland (very positive view) or Jordan (very negative view).

This is just the effect of Chinese products finally penetrating European markets in a comprehensive manner, like American products did in the past.

Public opinion of economic dominance is a meaningless statistic.  Economic dominance is the relevant stat.

I don't think American products ever penetrated into European markets to any significant extent - certainly far less at their height than Chinese products already have.

when Chinese weapons get stationed on every continent then we can talk.  until the US empire is sufficiently eroded blind adherence to the numbers on this multifaceted question is short-sighted.  the expensive semi-failures in the midEast of the past decade do at least open the possibility that the US could significantly recede in the coming decades.

we must remember that though the rapidly-developing PRC and India are home to a globally connected ruling elite and middle-class consumer base that is catching up the US and the rest of the West (this is likely the reason for the current full-fledged attack on not just the working underclass in the US/W Europe but also the middle class, such as teachers, the unionized, etc: the 'efficiency wage' for the aggregate masses in the West has declined, as now we are not the only ones that have to buy televisions, iPhones, cars, etc. to keep the whole machine in acceleration mode)...  as I was saying, while there is a burgeoning ruling and middle class in these new superpowers, they are also home to a far more massive and destitute underclass than exists in the West.  in many places in the 'Darkness' as some have put it there is no public infrastructure to speak of, and in significant pockets of rural India the govt we recognize has lost sovereignty.  before this great supra-national coup d'etat can occur the masters of the countries in question will have significant battles to fight with the as-of-yet unheard masses that live in their backyard.

Given the last two posts I think a modest and unpretentious little "lol" is in order.

The US stops being the only superpower once the dollar loses reserve currency status. When will that be?
