Note that this is the first part of a two-parter that I'm doing.

I'll be PMing people to vote in this. I will need between 50-100 votes (hopefully closer to 100) in order for this to work.

Can't we have a bit more precision about the parties' stances ?

No. They are all big-tent parties. I hope it's clear which is "more left" or "more right" than the others.

They all look a bit to totally dubious to me. The term "caring government" is a real big turnoff to me. I have heard that one before.  It usually is a euphemism for something that I oppose!  I prefer a just, efficient, and smart government myself.

If you give me an example of a real party, I'll tell you which party is closest to it on this list.

Isn't there some just plain out Centre/Center-Right Party? Progressive-Conservative isn't too big of a turn on and I don't fit with the Libertarians.

Depending on the meaning of each term, I could see myself voting for the LDP, the SLP or the SGP. And anyways, how is "social calm" incompatible with "social progress" or "efficient State" with "Nanny State" ?

Progressive Conservative is the closest thing to Centre-Right (think of them as christian democrats from europe)

None of the terms are more or less incompatible with any other. It is a scale, more to less left, more to less right. SGP is very left. SLP is left. LDP is centrist.

Liberal Democratic Party, hands down.  I'm all about efficient government and "Liberal Society" doesn't sound to bad, though do you mean classical (economic) liberalism or modern American social liberalism (progressivism)?

With such detailed and insightful descriptions about real life parties it's so hard to choose! Thanks OP for posting such a well written thought experiment.

Liberal Democratic Party.

(Like Yelnoc, I'm assuming that "liberal" doesn't mean hate crimes legislation and speech restrictions and gun control and all the other BS that Americans think it means, but rather in the more traditional sense.  And certainly efficient government, even in the welfare state, is attractive and clear enough.)

Thank you for taking time to provide such a thoughtful comment to my thread. Sadly, some of the over-zealous mods may see such a comment to be spam and a personal attack, so I certainly do hope that they can see the usefulness of this post, and overlook the part where you are wasting everyone's time by posting in the thread.

As for the parties, they are simply on a scale from left to right, with the exception of those at the fringes, which could fit in either place.

There's a decently large segment of the forum's right wing posters that seems to struggle to understand what is a personal attack and what isn't.

Well Teddy's previous post was wrong on several levels, primarily because he seems to be under this strange idea that I care what the mods do if he or certain other posters tattle on me for not-complaining about their thread.

Voted Socialist Labour, though I may be a bit to their right on social issues. I could see myself voting Liberal Democrat as well.

Is this for a polsim?

Actually I have a very strong faith, and I believe that bad people - IE people who don't think that they have a duty as a human being to at least TRY to be nice - will suffer for it.

I don't know. Socialist Labour? It's not very easy to choose considering the lack of detail.
