Tom Coburn?
«
on:

Looking recently at Tom Coburn I think he would be a great candidate to jump into the Republican field for 2012. He has shown that he has the potential to appeal to core Republican voters and Tea Party. As well as showing the possibility that he can appeal to independents and mainstream voters, as despite the fact that he is one of the Senate's most ardent conservative members. Coburn has been willing to take on even his own party's most vested interests in the debt ceiling fight. Therefore, if he did join the race I would support him.
However, even though I would love to see Tom Coburn jump in but I don't think he will when all is said and done.
So what does anyone else in this section of the forum think of a Coburn run for 2012?

Come to think of it, isn't Coburn supposedly a close personal friend of Obama's?

Thought so.
Obviously, this doesn't itself automatically disqualify him, but
he
might not want to run against him.

Coburn will secretly vote for Obama in 2012, like he did in 2008.

I don't think he'd even want to run in 2012. If he is to run at all, he'll run in 2016, where he already said he won't run for Senate again.

Clearly the solution is to privatize presidential elections.
So, in less than four years, get excited for the 2016 MetLife Financial U Pick The Prez Extravaganza. If you tweet a picture of your completed ballot with the hashtag #ivoted, you could win a trip for two to the inauguration or an iTunes gift card.

He would be an interesting candidate, and I think he could win, personally. However, I think he'll probably retire from the Senate in 2016 and call it a political career. I'm growing to kinda admire Coburn. He's turning out to be a much better Senator than the Senior Senator from Oklahoma. I thought Coburn would be just another right-wing hack, but he's not afraid to take on even his own party. Kudos to Coburn.
No, he won't run in 2012 or 2016 or ever. That's the way I see it now.

Yeah when the Gang of Six break a deal that end up raising taxes you can say goodbye to his chance of every being near a ticket

Symmetrically, you'd think the proposed deal also shuts the door on Mark Warner's rumored presidential ambitions. Maybe the reason this impasse is so hard to get past is that Michele Bachmann has all the Tea Party freshman convinced they can be the presidential nominee in 16.

He'd instantly move to Number 2 on my list, only behind Romney. He has the unique ability to be extremely conservative yet still likeable. I'm sure he has some fringe idea that'll turn off a lot of voters, though.

He filibustered an aid package to Haiti and covered up the Ensign scandal. The attack ads would be justifiably brutal.

Somehow, I'm not sure that filibustering foreign aid will be on the minds of the public while standing in the unemployment lines.
