Like one of these:

Because my hair is long, and the weather is hot, and I've always kind of wanted to do the shaved head thing, but I'm not going to pay a barber $25 to just shear the hair off my head. That's like 3 and a half hours of wages for something that I could possibly do myself.

I've seen it done before, but you should really get a friend to do it for you. If you miss a spot you'll look kind of retarded.

Shaving a head with a beard trimmer's been done before, but it's a lot more difficult trying to do it to yourself.

EDIT: what the above poster said.

Yeah, my roommate and all his other ROTC friends did it it with a beard trimmer and they turned out alright. Just get a friend to help.

Don't do it - it looks horrible.  By that I mean shave you head - the tools you use are irrelevant to the horribleness of that look.

Using a face trimmer on another part of the body will lead to a few painful tugs.  But if you can stand them, then you'll be alright.

I agree with Opebo.  Don't do it.  I shave my head once and all the nicks, bumps and scares of a life time were on full display.  Then there is the horrible intermediate stage where your hair is growing back but looks ridiculous.  Just get a shorter scissor cut. Also why do you pay $25 for a barber?

Why not? I used to help my friend sheer his head. Sure, it comes out looking like a melon, but if you work out and bulk up, those guidettes will love you!

I did it once. Took forever and the battery died half way through. I had to wait for a few hours for it to recharge with half a shaved head.

I'm not sure this is the best place to ask personal grooming questions. For what it's worth, I think shaved heads are sexy.

This reminds of that scene from Napoleon Dynamite where Pedro shaves his head because he's feeling hot.

I've never met someone who shaved their head and thought it was a great idea in hindsight. Unless you want to be associated with neo-nazis, cancer patients, guidos and service members, don't do it.

Why not have a barber do it? It can't be terribly expensive.

Real hair clippers cost about the price of a hair cut and are MUCH easier to use.  I still wouldn't recommend doing it yourself though.

...and "lol" at the haters of the buzz cut.  Vain much?

Just get a $7.99 cut at Fantastic Sams!  It's just that... a $7.99 cut.  You're a guy... and if your hair is long and shaggy and you're thinking about shaving... the eight buck cut is an improvement.  And if you live in a sane state, haircuts aren't subject to sales tax!  Woot!

These were actually invented for your purpose, not to trim beards.

I'd suggest hair clippers and a mirror.  Shave it off once, then do the cleanup.

You might also try just short, 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch.
