This really doesn't belong in "Past Election What-ifs" and the alternate history board is too underused so, hate it as I do, I'm polluting the main board here.

Is there any scenario or political alignment that can keep Hillary Rodham a Republican, and possible even a Conservative? She began in a Conservative household, apparently found evidence of election fraud in 1960, read Conscience of a Conservative, and volunteered for Goldwater's 1964 campaign. Apparently, as I recall, by 1968 she was supporting Eugene McCarthy and I think described herself as a "mind Conservative, heart Liberal" or something like that around that period. By now, she is, well, you know...

Following that, is their an alternate rise to prominence she could experience as a Republican? Might she become active in Illinois and by the nineties or the 2000's become Governor and be set up for a potential Presidential run? I'm currently working on a scenario like that, though it isn't fleshed out yet.

If the Rockefeller wing triumphed and produced a more moderate center-right party, I could see a feasible scenario.

As much as Hillary fanboy will hate me for this, our own overrated Hillary was political activist-turned political wife-turned politician thanks to her husband success: hardly someone who made career on her own, like real female politicians. She's need a Republican Bill in this scenario.

Just because she did not do so doesn't mean she would necessarily be incapable of it.

This gives me an idea for a potential timeline down the road...

Man, I'm already 54 pages into a timeline that could very well end up with this...

Hillary Rodham Bush.

Both went to Yale, albeit at different times. I'm sure you can have him pop in and meet Miss Rodham on some fortuitous occasion.

I believe Hillary flirted with Conservative politics (She was a "Goldwater Girl" in 1964). I believe her Methodist minister helped steer her toward  a more liberal point of view. A conservative Hillary timeline is completely feasible.

"A Land of Milk & Honey" on alternatehistory.com. Best to search it on google along with key words like "alternate history" & "Rogue Beaver" since ah.com's search function is crap.

POD is LBJ withdrawing from 'Nam as planned. Quite the timeline. Too bad it abruptly went without update in 1977. Read it.
