Mario Cuomo's legacy is one that I envy. He was a man that I respect. I feel for his wife Mitilda. I know they loved each other. Mario Cuomo didn't win every election he ran in. Few people do. He was an electrifying speaker and a visionary leader. Mario and Matilda Cuomo gave of themselves in their service to New York and the United States. Their something special. They came & left politics solid & God fearing people.

Not sure there's that much to discuss, other than the words "Bay of Pigs."

Bay of Pigs was a useful excuse to get rid of him. The brothers wanted to run SpecOps themselves, and this was the POD which had RFK become deeply involved in foreign policy.

Is it excessive to hold a politician's feet to the fire for giving his base the run around at every turn?

You can't deny that the Bay of Pigs happened, though.  I mean, it was a catastrophic failure of policy.  Had it not happened, it could've been harder to fire Dulles.

Oh, I agree it was a policy failure. But as Truman said, the buck stops with the President.
