So 2 trillion in 'cuts' (more like 'slowed' spending increases).. And next to no reduction at all in the military or demands for the too big to fails to pay anything or any real changes to programs I'll never receive anything from anyway. Looks like those EXTREME teabaggers were about as effective at stalling this sh**t as I thought!

Big factor is the really weak, and downward revised, GDP numbers as well.

Not quite a double dip.. yet.... but skirting the edges....

True and the ISM numbers just seem to confirm that.

Well if we're not in a double dip yet, the GOP holding the economy hostage and then forcing this Hooverism on us will do it, don't worry friend. You'll have your Michele Bachmann measuring the drapes in the Oval Office by next Christmas.

You guys are all paying attention to the wrong numbers. Europe is the name of the game, and it has been since last year. Repeat after me: Europe, Europe, Europe. Europe, Europe, Europe. Eporue, Eporue, Eporue.

My Congressman is strongly against the deal. Good for him.

It's going to pass. Why do I know that? Because it is coming up for a vote in the House in 15 minutes. I guess the parties worked out who gets to vote no.

On the other hand, the Pubbies just announced that a majority of their caucus will vote yes, and will call for a recess if the Dems come up short. So ... I guess we are in for a bit more drama.  The Pubbies want a lot more than 66 Dems to vote yes I guess. But it will pass in the end.

I wonder if the even Dem split was part of a deal, or an accident?  The Dems did hold back their votes in large numbers until the end.

The Budget Control Act of 2011 has just passed the House 269-161. In the end, Republicans provided about two-thirds of the yes votes, along with 66 of the nays, while the Democratic caucus split right down the middle, 95-95. The Senate will vote tomorrow."

I'm hoping the Senate votes no at the last minute, or Obama vetoes it.

That passed the House more smoothly than I thought it would. I'm kinda surprised.

Well great. Take a poll as to which should be the top priority of Congress and the President for the next year: Cutting the debt or creating jobs and see how bad the former loses. Unfortunately Congress just chose to weaken the economy with budget cuts that will directly and indirectly (though just as definitely) cost jobs.

Obama may've forfieted his reelection. Forget beltway chatter over winners/losers/Obama's relevency, etc. The one thing that could defeat Obama next year is persistently high unemployment, and it appears he's signing on to the strongest possible steps to ensure that happens.

I'm not surprised the cutthroat cynics in the GOP signed on to the goal of making Obama a one term president by any means necessary--including lengthening the recession or forcing a national default--but Obama and the Democrats should know better.

Stop with the drama. The Act preserves the massive increases in discretionary spending from the last 2-3 years and is, relatively speaking, inconsequential budgetary-wise for the short-term.

Am I reading this right? The vote is officially titled "To make a technical amendment to the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002"? Lol.

Or do I have the wrong vote?
