they are always labeled as perpetrators of a "tax and spend agenda." I believe that as liberals, it means we should always try something new. I think that we should stop taxing by income and start taxing by amount of offspring in the sense that more offspring = more taxes.

That is without a doubt one of the most idiotic suggestions I have ever read in my entire life.

I agree with the sentiment, though the rest is unintelligible...the Democrats, for at least the last 10 years, have done a poor job at formulating what they are FOR, in terms of economic policy...Republicans have a clear message: lower taxes, less government spending, less government intrusion, etc...but Democrats need to formulate a clear message...if they have one, they have to articulate it in a concise way that sticks...

Yeah, the best way to shake off that 'tax and spend' image is definitely to start taxing people based on the number of kids they have.

you are right. forget families with children - they are a lost cause politically. the future of your party is in sterile people.

You must have a fertility rate of 2.10 at minimum for replacement levels. Should we implement such a policy as you have suggested the fertility rate would unarguably collapse to levels comparable to Eastern Europe which would quickly create a demographic crisis leading inevitably to an unsustainable strain on the social safety net eventually leading either to its abolition or significant reduction, so if you are a Liberal who believes in the welfare state I would highly recommend to encourage more births rather than discourage it.
