I've been reading some speculation that Obama may ultimately decide not to run again, and I'm wondering if people here think there's any chance of that happening.

Next to none bar a genuine health problem.

I suggest you start reading more reliable and responsible news sources. Obama announced his intention to run again months ago.

Not that it makes the idea of Obama not running any less ridiculous but LBJ's hat was in the ring until after the NH primary, although he barely did any campaigning.

Black Jesus shall not retire.  He will rise from the dead and walk the Earth.

(Just like Jimmy Carter.)

Nah, I think it was a forgone conclusion that LBJ would lose in 1968, so he was like "Why bother?" Things aren't looking good for Obama, but he's not even close to being out of it.

No, he's too cocky to do so.

Funny thing is that LBJ technically won NH primary, even if he didn't campaign, while McCarthy campaigned hardly.

He will run again, will he win? I can't make predictions yet. If he does something catastrophic, then he shouldn't run.

I think this is right.  Not to run is to admit being a failure; I don't think he can bring himself to it.

Further, other than Hilary!, there isn't another viable Democratic candidate, that would even appear to  be a stronger candidate.  Biden is a joke.  Reid? Pelosi? Jerry Brown?  Patrick? Cuomo?

Perhaps if he is offered the Secretary Generalship of the Unitied Nations, he might step aside.  In that position, he could travel to all our enemies and try to make peace.  He could live high on the hog in NYC, he could give all his speeches with a telepromter, and he could view it as a promotion:  President of the World after having served as our 44th President.

This actually might be plausible if his approval rating drops to 36% or less come Jan/Feb 2012.

Yeah, he's running again because he's cocky. Not because he's the incumbent President and every incumbent President save one has run for re-election in the past 100 years. It must be because he's cocky.

He drops hints that his family doesn't want him to serve a second term.  I can see it happening.

I'm actually surprised he's not getting primaried from some far-left candidate.

If I were Obama and decided not to run for re-election, I would be of one mind to

(1) Make my intent early to give the next D a fighting chance (who would that be? Hillary? Biden? Cuomo's too green.) I feel if this more likely scenario were the case we would have known by now or would hear it before/by Labor day

OR

(2) Raise as much money as I can under my name to give to the next guy (is that legal?)
