Memo to future Cabinet Ministers: Sounding off about fellow Cabinet Ministers is not a good idea.
You never know when you might need their support...

Shame I liked Blunckett, good populist... closest thing in the UK to the US definition IMHO.

Blunkett was highly controversial among the left over some of the anti-terror legislation. He was reasonably effective, but he's ruined his reputation by this affair, which I have variously mentally called 'Blunkettgate' or 'Nanny-Visagate'.

He didn't have to go over the affair, he would have over the visa allegations if true. However, insulting Cabinet colleagues is a breach of collective responsibility and so his resignation was probably justified.

The three things combined warrant a resignation. Note this came after the last PMQs before Christmas.

Who's likely to be new Home Secretary?

This is really bad. I think Blunkett was one of the best on Blair's government. I really liked him.

When Blair steps down, I think I will support the Tories again, because there's nobody in the Labour Party that I like anymore.

JFK: are you going to be PM running with Labour or Conservative?

Ok, so I will support Labour back again when you run. Meanwhile, after Blair, I will support the Tories again (I did it before Blair).

Or, do you really find any inspiring leader in Labour besides Blair? (I would have liked Blunkett as PM after him, but it seems that possibility has faded - not eliminated since Blair has an ability to resuscitate old cabinet members in disgrace like Mandelson).

It amazes me that a blind man could get that far in government. He could have made a very interesting Prime Minister.

Hillary Benn may one day be PM, I like him.

Good news about Kelly, Clark will do the job but i can't help thinking that Reid or Johnson would have been better, that said Johnson has only been in the cabinet a few months.

Kelly is now being tipped as a future PM.

She's apparently to the right of the party on education.

NUS won't be pleased if she is...

I'm glad to see Ruth Kelly in the cabinet finally, I had hoped she would get the nod when Smith resigned at Work & Pensions.

Big Ears has a lot of work on his hands considering the number of home office bills there are flying around.

This in my opinion, has been a pretty bad week for the government.
The living wills rebellion, Blunkett, the Law Lords and the detention policy, plus the army restructuring. When's the ICM poll come out?

Not for a while, YouGov have the government static, my prediction was for the Government to be in the 37-39 range by Christmas, the polls where showing this until Nanny-gate... a mild nock by January Labour will be up in the 37-39 range and with the Budget that should level up to around 39-42 in the polls I expect.

I doubt that Labour will go back over 40% while Blair is PM.
