Well she was a former United States Senator and albeit she failed badly she did run for the 2004 democratic nomination.

Bush/Cheney ...  279 electoral votes 

Clark/Braun...   258  electoral votes

A popular regional candidate , Wes Clark manages to take Iowa  but still falls 12 electoral votes.  Carol Moseley Braun is very ineffective and only helps to increase the winning percentage in her home state of Illinois which was expected to go for the Democrats anyways.
