Is Rick Perry the new Fred Thompson? Is he just another over-hyped candidate, or will he really shake things up and become the conservative dream candidate?

Since Barack Obama is the new Jimmy Carter, Rick Perry would then be the new Ronald Reagan.

I mean he is going to bring alot of money, organization, and rep into the race so maybe he will be able to shake things up. Also, he is being pushed by many conservative & Tea Part activists as the anti-Romney and someone who is much more electable then the other "conservative" alternative at the moment.

Yes, more or less.  They're almost all Fred Thompsons, though.

What separates them is that Perry harbors secessionist sympathies.

He doesn't look excited, he looks like he is about to cut the cheese.

^^ Pity that Josh Brolin already played W.

He would be spot-on for Perry, but I guess this would confuse things a bit. Wink

I imagine that at his age, that can be pretty exciting.

I don't see Rick Perry becoming an especially strong candidate.

I mean, he basically trashed his chances of winning Iowa when he announced at the same time as the straw poll, and the odds of him winning New Hampshire are miniscule. With losses in both states, he will be facing the momentum of either one or two strong candidates from then on, and seeing as how he probably won't win Nevada and at best might win South Carolina, his odds of nomination are incredibly low.

Yeah, pretty much an overrated candidate. Might rob Bachmann or Romney of some votes and might perform well, but victory is practically impossible.
