I was doing some research on Wallace's possible VP picks for his Presidential run in 1968. Among them, I found the following names as possiblities for VP:

Happy Chandler (former baseball commissioner and Gov of KY)
Colonel Sanders (KFC founder)

If you wish, you can make 2 maps with both of them but my thread is a '68 what-if with Wallace and Sanders running on the American Independent ticket.

I heard about this somewhere else, and, in all honesty, that would be one of the most awesome VP picks in the history of VP picks. Just thinking about this makes me hungry for KFC.

Former Vice-President Richard M Nixon (R-NY)/Governor Sprio T Agnew (R-MD) 296 electoral votes
Vice-President Hubert H Humphrey (D-MN)/Senator Edmund Muskie (R-ME) 156 electoral votes
Former Governor George Wallace (AI-AL)/Businessman and "Colonel" Harland Sanders (AI-KY) 86 electoral votes

Wallace loses his hardcore supproters: a lot of damage was caused when he floated a Chandler trial balloon. He fixed it quickly enough to avoid a debacle like McGovern's 4 years later, so it didn't make the national news.

Racist jokes about blacks and fried chicken become even more racist? No, seriously, just the shame of their founder being a Dixiecrat by association.
