Djou said something negative about the person he's running against. Clearly, because of that, he's finished.

If he weren't a defeated Republican running in a state hostile to Republicans, he'd have a larger margin of error.

No one's ever won an election by hugging their opponent to death.

Neither by being a sore loser.

Attacking your opponent after the election is just bitter and shows a lack of class. You really don't see many people who have been defeated running around badmouthing the person who beat them.

...at least not ones that want to be run again soon.
This here announcement spells "descent into perennial candidate hell with the brakes off" to me.

You're ridiculous.

Djou's exit was hardly just [saying] something negative about the person he's running against". It was an act of first class douchbaggery and something that undoubtedly left a bad taste to every non True Believer (and there aren't many in Hawaii).

Barring some sort of massive scandal, the idea that Djou could beat Rep. Hanabusa is fantasy.  I hope the GOP pours a lot of money into trying to win this race.

I think you're going a bit too far in the other direction here, he closed his campaign on a sharply negative note and said "I have no plans to run for any political office ever again."  What's going to be the central reason for his candidacy -- that the GOP House that swept into control when he lost would be improved by a friendly Republican instead of a hostile Democrat?

How's that gonna fly in Hawaii?

Hanabusa is running for the House again, setting up a re-rematch with Djou.
