Does the US fear the rise of India, either?  Everyone I've heardsays that they're a much-needed counterbalance to China.

Indians speak English.  They are no threat.

Cute.

They also aren't threatening allied nations and then there's the whole Democratic Peace phenomenon....not really an equivalent comparison.

Russia is a vastly diminished threat that will soon become much more so due to their demographic death spiral, but they are clearly a threat to many of our strategic interests nonetheless.

This particular gaffe is not that big, and certainly no bigger than some of the speaking gaffes Obama and Biden have made.  Its a non-story.

You're right.  It's not a gaffe.  It's evidence of a deep ongoing psychosis... as well as a gaping hole in her knowledge of current world events.  We have NO issues with Russia that can be solved through military strength.

I repeat, do NOT give this woman the nuclear button.

I take comfort in remembering that there is roughly a snowball's chance in hell of Bachmann being the nominee.

Fellows, the real nominee and next president will be even worse.

Richardson called Russia the Soviet Union in a Dem debate in 2007. Still, with him and Dean it's a slip up, with Bachmann it's a pattern of never ending dumb statements about history...

It's both. It's an innocuous slipup in a dumb clueless statement.

As a previous poster gently pointed out, if us substitute the word Russia the sentence still doesn't make any sense.
