I know some of you aren't into sports. But this is an interesting thing on ESPN's web site. It's a small scale way of seeing how the popular vote and Electoral vote can look so different.

I'm glad most of America (55% at the time I took the poll) has a sane view on the Eagles-Steelers result (believing that we Eagles fans shouldn't be that worried about our performance). It's disappointing that Pennsylvania on the whole feels differently. Not surprising though. I'm sure Steelers fans/everyone outside of the Philly area voted that we should be deathly afraid of what's to come because they buy into this non-existant cross-state "rivalry" between the Eagles and Steelers.

I voted no. Some teams that go 0-4 in the pre-season win the Super Bowl, And I think the Lions were 4-0 the year they went 0-16.

How would you guess the Eagles and Steelers fans voted? BTW, I'm a soccer/football fan and it's most like by the progressive types.

I'm glad someone else has spent far too much time analyzing these things. Combining electoral maps and sports is a dangerous combination for some of us.

That was my logic when answering that other silly question - "How much does pre-season performance affect regular season performance?" I voted "none at all."

You must have loved the option about matching a Premier League match this weekend.  Tongue  That's how I voted, by the way, even though I don't intend to watch a Premier League game this weekend/only watch English teams during Champions League play.

I think Steelers fans are among the intelligent NFL fans and know the weight of the game. Is it fun? Yes. Was it good to see? Yes. Does it mean anything a week from now? Nope. The Steelers prepared for a game against the Eagles, the Eagles prepared for a generic game. Week one the Steelers prepared for a generic game in the same way.

I look at these all the time. I love when they get really strong regional divides.

I think that the Eagles are gonna end up pretty disappointed with Vick this year. I really think he peaked midway through last year. I've been saying this since GB knocked them out in the wild card round so it's not a rush to judgement based off the preseason.

That being said, I'd take Vick over Kevin "what has this guy done?" Kolb.

I can honestly say I go around and vote on these from time to time just to compare/contrast. Isn't that sad? Tongue

Pennsylvania PRIDE!!!!  We're the ONLY state other than Hawaii that gives that schmuck Roger Goodell a net disapproval rating!  The rest of the country is too nice.

These maps DO look like election maps. The northeast tends to vote as a bloc, and california goes with them.

Moderate western Republican/Midwesterner vs. Alabama Dixiecrat/old John Edwards maybe? Or perhaps a very odd take on 1976?

How about this map that I'd love to see IRL:

It's more fun to imagine these as election maps than it ought to be.

The question is, "Would the Big East deserve an automatic BCS bid if it adds Air Force, Boise State, Central Florida, Houston, Navy and SMU?" I voted No; No has 52% of the vote. California is tied.

Another great one is this:

The question is whether Dallas or St. Louis has better baseball fans; even the suggestion that the two are comparable is ridiculous on its face, and St. Louis gets 75%.

Vote rigging by Vick fans?...but you'd think they'd pile on the easy target (which one would assume would be Big Ben).  Same thing the other way if it was BigBen fans doing the vote rigging.  I don't even understand why Cutler is an option....wouldn't Brady be a more obvious choice?

...oh....ESPN poll.  He might not let them blow him anymore if they put him on a list like that.

I like that Cutler wins both Illinois and Colorado. Then again, America has long shown it doesn't really believe "likability" and "law-abiding" are synonyms.
