He always seems to do poorly in PPP polls, while Cain does far better than in most polls. Gingrich's number looks a bit too high too.

My in-depth analysis on this poll consists of "lol Romney".

Romney was never going to win the nomination, obviously.  The question was always "who was he going to finish second to?"  At first it looked like Trump, brief Mitch Daniels and Tim Pawlenty love, then came Bachmann, and now Perry.

Perry appears to be the end product 'best we can do' and the polled are responding to it in that way.

Yup, Perry is now the new frontrunner. Leads nation-wide and also in Iowa. His biggest threat, I think, isn't Romney. It's Bachmann. If Bachmann implodes, I imagine her supporters would gravitate to Perry over Romney. If she makes a comeback, however, she could steal enough supporters away from Perry to let Romney slip on by.
