Where's the "None of the two/Chavez" option? I mean, why should we assume the eventual loser and their supporters will have accepted defeat by tomorrow night? Seems far-fetched unless Chavez wins by far more than expected.
(Yes, you're reading right. It seems far-fetched even if Capriles wins by far more than anybody thinks.)

I voted Chavez/None of the two, but if I had to choose I'd prefer HCR.

None of the two/Chavez
None of the two/Capriles
... is impossible, because these 2 will get about 97-98% together. The others will get 2-3% or so.
I know what you mean, but someone will be sworn in as President some day.
Happened even in the US in 2000 ...

But he certainly didn't "win" on election day. The coup that put him in office was weeks later.

I would pull for HCR, but I wouldn't be surprised if Chavez wins by dubious means.

Chavez will win. And I used to want HCR to win, but now I know that he wants to privatize state assets and banks and everything. So, I guess grudgingly HCR. Maybe the left will be able to find someone who isn't corrupt and opposes the Chavez regime for the same reason as me to beat HCR in 2018.

The problem is not what HCR wants, the problem is who he is allied with and needs to be if he wants to unite the opposition. No point having some "this personality cult is very camp and is seriously undermining democratization and so is Chavez as a person" third party campaign, the right wouldn't vote for that and Americans wouldn't bankroll that.

Chavez, though Capriles and the western press will do their darndest to immediately de-legitimize and cast doubt on the result, so strong is their hatred of democracy
for Venezuelans.

Democracy is a feelgood term that means a lot of different things to different people - and most of Capriles' Western supporters very much approve of Democracy at home. It's only when browns elect people they haven't precleared that they get itchy.
