It's a bit condescending, as usual with Tomasky, but raises some interesting points.

That's pretty much view of the guy, yeah.

Someone on AH.com once said that some people are attracted to his bold, no-nonsense stand against the Iraq War, which leads them to overlook that he spends the rest of his time taking bold, all-nonsense stands on everything else.

It has become pretty clear that only a Paul or a Kucinich will fix our dangerous foreign policy mistakes here in the US of A.

And anyone that is truly anti-war like Paul and Kucinich.

It makes far more sense to spend billions on sensible causes like occupying countries that have asked us to leave, guarding Afghani poppy fields, Israeli bulldozers and Al Qaeda Libyan freedom fighters than over here, Napoleon. Even liberal intellectuals like Obama think that. Why can't you be more sensible?

Every time I think of Ron Paul, I just imagine him actually being something like this behind closed doors:

He is probably a fine guy, though...

Enjoy living in a police state funded by foreign investors and increasingly worthless fiat currency?  If not, then by all means get cranky about it.

Is the idea of fiscal responsibility all nonsense?

Or what about the idea that the current level of defense spending is unsustainable?

Or the idea that citizens do have the right to be free in their personal effects without unwarranted searches and seizures?

These may indeed be extreme ideas, in this day of politics-as-spectator-sport, but the only cranks I see here are Tomasky and his ilk, who apparently can't accept the idea that the empire is being crushed under its own weight.

Remind me, what did FEMA do in Louisiana?

Oh yeah, it blocked off aid from non-government sources and made things worse.

What a great agency! Lets keep it around!
