I had a team in every league at one stage, but I can't remember most of them.

Favourite: Australian national team

A-League: Melbourne Victory
Chile: Magallanes
Argentina: Rosario Central
EPL: Liverpool
Scotland: Hearts
Netherlands: Feyenoord
France: OL
Spain: Barcelona
Portugal: Porto
Italy: Lazio
Germany: Bayern Munich

No rhyme or reason for most of the picks.

You forgot the worst part - Lazio. Oh, and a Protnazi club from Scotland. It's almost like he asked himself, "what would Satan do?"

If I were Barca I'd be really ashamed of myself for appearing on that list.

Still, at least he avoided Chelsky or Manchester Sh!tty. So it could have been ever-so-slightly worse.

Yeah, I was wondering why someone like Hugh would like the probably most notoriously Fascist club in Italian Soccer.

Also Feyenoord, the club whose hard-core fans have a history of less than ...tastefull chants.

'Alle joden aan het gas' ('All jews on gas') stands out as especially memorable.

"Jews", in that sentence, being code for Ajax fans.

Same tradition with Arsenal vs Tottenham... so yeah, why Liverpool and not Arsenal? Why Barca and not Atletico?

OL is the club in France that shites it money all over everything, so they belong on the list. Can't judge about the southron clubs, of course.

Most of it comes from choosing teams when I was in grade 4, based off a combination of:

a) FIFA Futbol Mundial club profiles
(Porto, Lazio; not that they were good profiles, just that they had profiles at all)
b) Teams that Andrew Mazuras, a school friend, didn't like
(Liverpool, Barca)
c) Teams that I played in FIFA '97
(OL, Bayern)
d) Teams who I liked the name of
(Hearts, Feyenoord)

Of the other three, Melbourne Victory is the home team, Rosario Central I saw live in Argentina in 2006, against San Lorenzo, and Magellanes cos the family who ran the hostel in Santiago had massive Magellanes flags all over the place.

I'm happy with my teams, even if they are an odd bunch, and I never actually follow anything about them.

Huh

That's kinda random; do you really hate Canada that much to cheer for its biggest rival?

Biggest rival? No offense, but Canada isn't really in America's league quality wise....at least concerning the women.

The Blue Whales won their first game tonight.  They defeated the Great Grapes 2-0.  Woot!

Till now it was just practice, but tonight they played for real.  My son didn't score either goal, but he passed and dribbled and kicked a lot.  The goals were scored by Hannah Montana.  Actually, that's not her real last name.  Her name is Hannah something.  We don't know her real last name, but we always call her Hannah Montana.  She's awesome.  Coach Mike is awesome too.

Go Blue Whales.  Kickin' ass and takin' names.

I'll have a celebratory drink.  Smiley

Very sad.  The Blue Whales were defeated tonight.

Blue Whales:  0            Fireballs:  1

Sadder still is the fact that Hannah Montana was injured.  By my son.  Her own teammate.

Saddest of all is that he was dicking around when it happened.  Swinging from the goal during water-bottle break and accidentally kicked her in the head.  Ah, she'll be okay, but it probably cost them the game.

I had him apologize, and he has lost his TV and bicycle privileges for two days.  Hopefully this won't happen again.

The blue flag flies at half mast tonight.

I once got smashed in the head by a (field) hockey stick by a teammate. About 100m from the ball. I was around 10, and she was swinging around the stick, and it hit me pretty strongly, I had a fair lump. She was my sister. Bitch. Smiley

Blue Whales were defeated again tonight by the Turtles, 3-1.

On a brighter note, it was my son who scored the only goal for the Blue Whales.

They were somewhat mismatched, as the Turtles had five players while the Blue Whales only had four.  One child didn't show up.  And when this happens basically the short team goes without a goalkeeper.  That's a distinct disadvantages, especially for children who are never really quite sure which goal they should be kicking towards.  Hannah Montana was there, though.  And judging by the fact that she and my son were back to playing grab-ass during the breaks and pushing each other afterward on the merry-go-round in the playground adjacent, I think there are no hard feelings about the little contretemps last week.  No grudges.

I wish grown-ups could be like that.

Far and away #1: Nottingham Forest FC, currently competing in npower Championship. (and could perhaps make a surprise run at Premier League promotion this season....!)

Distant #2: Tottenham Hotspur.

Close #3: AS Roma.
