Yes/Yes, though sadly I heard that only 60% of the country would vote for a gay President and only 50% an atheist.

That is correct Smiley

Prior to the 1960's both women and blacks had less than 1/2 the nation that would vote for them

Prior to the 1940's catholics had less than 1/2 the nation that would vote for them

Prior to the 1950's Jews had less than 1/2 the nation that would vote for them

It is only a matter of time......

Yes, provided they are good leaders.

How atheistic is this person? If purely, hardcore atheistic, then no.  Belief in divine order makes people fearless enough to deal with the challenges of the Presidency.

Thomas Jefferson is a good example of an "atheist" that I could vote for.

Plenty of cowards have religion.

I didn't say I'd vote for any religious person.

But you implied that a hardcore atheist, which Jefferson definitely was not(deist or agnostic, actually), could not be fearless enough to deal with the challenges of the Presidency. I see no basis for this logic.

What reason does an atheist have to be fearless?

I would vote for an atheist that respected religion rather then the small minority of atheists that want to destroy religion.

I agree with StatesRights.

I'd go further.  I'd probably vote for a gay candidate who favored something similar to the proposed protection of  marriage amendment than I would a straight candidate who opposed it.

Maybe/maybe.

It depends on whether they were a good leader. I could not vote for them BECAUSE of this.

On the question of whether it would affect my vote or not, the answer would be no/no.

I voted yes/yes.

A better question might be:  Would you support a gay/atheist in the PRIMARIES, or would 'electablility' doom them the same way it seems to have doomed Hillary amoung forum Democrats?

Of course I would.  I would prefer either of these to the alternative, particularly the atheist.

Here in Thailand they have a very big 'ladyboy' phenomenon - a surprisingly large percentage of the male population are transvestite and/or transexual.  Some friends and I once remarked that the mark of a truly tolerant and reasonable nation would be a Ladyboy President!

I wouldn't care about one's sexuality or religion when voting. I would vote only on the basis of their positions on the issues.

If the Dems don't dump your kind, they better get ready to lose in a landslide.

You prove my point Philip - America (and alas the whole world) is full of intolerants like you.  The US would undoubtedly fail the Ladyboy-For-President test of civilized tolerance.  Just what do you have against these people, Philip?

How often do you bathe in sewage? I would assume not very often. You ever stop and think that maybe there are some things in life that are supposed to be repulsive?

Your version of tolerance is an exclusionary, elitist club for freaks.

I see nothing repulsive about these people - in fact many are such a creditable fascimile of a women you'ld be hard pressed to tell the difference - asian stature and hairlessness help.  But even the gawky obvious ones seem like potentially decent, pleasant people to me - in fact probably more likely to be decent, kind, and considerate due to the difficulties they've faced in life.  No, the only thing I would correlate to 'sewage', Philip, is mean spirited, hate-filled intolerants such as yourself.

As someone who enjoys close races, I just want to warn the liberals. You run on this, and you lose in a DC-is-solid-Republican landslide.

I don't think there's much danger of any party in the US nominating a ladyboy!
