Which operating system(s) do you use?

Right now I use Lion on my iMac and iOS on my iPad.  I occasionally use Linux "Ubuntu" on my step-dad's computer if I need to print something (which is rare).

I also use WinXP on my iMac under bootcamp to play windows only games.  I got WinXP free because my step dad used to install POS (as in Point-of-Sale) equipment in various stores.  I'd like to upgrade it to Windows 7.

iPhone everything from the PurchaseBrothers on Youtube... incorporates a lot of Apple's advertising themes in the past 15 years... and you can control it with your mind!

A very well made mockup of an ad if I do say so myself.

All the Windows ones plus Linux on my computer in the lab. I still don't know how to do a lot of things in Linux even though I've been using it for two years, but I know what I need to and can look up what I don't.

The "main" computer runs 7 as does one of the laptops.  I've got another laptop running Vista and an older computer in the basement running Ubuntu(Linux).  The kids have their school laptops running the latest Mac OS, but I didn't count those.  My work PCs all run Vista unless they are "online" systems in which case they run XP or RedHat.  We also use VMS on our Vax Alphas.

You should upgrade... but be warned... upgrading from XP to 7 is a GIANT PAIN IN THE ASS.  You will have to save all of your files and settings to an external drive and then delete everything on the computer... and then a fresh install of 7 is put on there.  Then you have the fun job of reinstalling *all* of the programs you use.

In my case, it's made even better that apparently my SuperDrive gacked out so I have the fun job of trying to install my digital copy of Win7 from a thumb drive.  But I had to change my EFI settings with third party software so my computer would recognize the thumb drive as a bootable disk.  But then it still won't boot because I have to configure it with an application on a computer with windows 7 already installed on it.

If that doesn't work... anybody want a copy of Windows 7 for real cheap?

Obviously you can't really compare my Windows on a Mac experience with Mac OS on a Mac.  I'm sure upgrading Windows on a Windows PC is much easier... but in contrast, upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion on my computer consisted of like 2 steps

1.  Go into the App store and purchase OS X Lion ($29.99) and download.
2.  Open installer and put in password.  Wait.

Not long after my computer restarts and all of my settings, programs, and folders have integrated seamlessly into Lion.

I understand there are a lot of Apple haters out there.. but you can't deny that they make things incredibly easy.

Surprised there are so few Mac users on here. If we want to geek it out, we should start a thread listing our computer specs!

Mac users know what "computer specs" are?  You sure they don't think those are glasses you wear when using a computer machine?

I think you mean our mock turtle necks and jeans...

I do know this new laptop I got has a QUAD CORE chip in it! It's so fast it makes the slow Atlas site seem usable!

XP, Vista

Windows XP on my primary computer. I have two other computers with Windows 98 and Windows 95 respectively.

Shocked

There is a program on it that I don't have the disk for.

The Windows 98 one is for 3 or 4 programs that need a Pre-Windows XP OS.

It's not worth it. The machine is from 2005. Remember the thread from last year when my hard drive went. If I went to extreme lengths to save everything completely as it was during that ordeal (while lacking an external drive or any way to do a mass backup, all I could do was a direct cloning from one drive to the another.), I sure am not going to purposely throw it away just so I can say "I have Windows seven". And again, the machine is from 2005. Tongue
