Why do you all think Obama is more authoritarian than Johnson?

Yeah, in my personal list, I have him as the most authoritarian:

Democrats:
Libertarian
Carter
Clinton
Kennedy
Obama
Johnson
Authoritarian

I'm not that sure on Republicans. I definitely have Ford at the top and Nixon and Dubya fighting it out for the bottom, but I'm not sure where Ike, Poppy, and Reagan go. Why's everyone have Ike as eitehr the most or second most Libertarian? Despite cutting military costs, he promoted the production of nuclear weapons, the interstate highway system, CIA-led coups of unfriendly dictators, and high taxation. Hardly things that I'd think any Libertarian would like, though they'd probably vote for him over Stevenson.

Why do you all think Obama is more authoritarian than Johnson?

Presumably because Johnson was the one who signed the Kennedy tax cuts.

Presumably because Johnson was the one who signed the Kennedy tax cuts.

Plus Johnson for all his spying and all that never openly supported 'extrajudicial killings' of american citizens, shutting down whole mediums (the internet), multiple undeclared wars, a 'civilian national security force,' or the sort of massive national security state we have now. Granted I'm sure he would if his predecessor had gotten away with as much or he had the technology to do something like DARPA. But this is of course, based on policies enacted not actual ideology.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_the_Dominican_Republic_(1965–1966)

Plus all sorts of other Cold War bombing campaigns that didn't involve "boots on the ground."

Also extrajudicial killings of US civilians... Cool

Well, that's true but there was only one major war to speak of. Under Obama we really have 2-3 going on plus lesser bombing campaigns.

Note the use of the phrase openly. Wink

Obama inherited both of those wars.

We have more troops in Afghanistan than when he got in. And deciding to bomb Libya, Yemen, Somalia, etc. was all him.

That's because Afghanistan was pushed to the sidelines from 2003-2008.

Because Libertarianism and Authoritarianism are both entirely objective concepts right?
