Tender Branson:
No English article about this yet, but I'll try to explain it to you. Here is what our Finance Minister Maria Fekter said during the meeting of the Eurozone Finance Ministers and Tim Geithner in Poland:

Translation:

Responding to the controversial statement of Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski, who said that "if Europe goes on like this, there could be war", Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter provided a rather controversial statement as well. She said: "Currently in Europe we are establishing enourmous boogiemen out of banks and the rich. We already had that once, then directed at Jews, but also similar groups [like banks, rich] were meant. This has ended in war twice. Therefore we all have to assure that such a scenario does not develop once again."

...

What do you think about this ? Here in Austria she gets heavy flak from the media as well as from the parties, who call the statements "shocking" like the Greens and think Fekter uses stereotypes of "Jews being rich and capitalists". Others called her to step down.

Verily:
Sounds like she was acknowledging old stereotypes, not inserting her own, but translation is hard.

ZuWo:
Clumsy. Politicians should know that they will be heavily criticised when they compare a current situation to the persecution of Jews in WWII. Clumsy and amateurish.

republicanism:

Very stupid. And revisionist, but we're talking about Austria here, so...

Sbane:
Wasn't some of the anger directed at Jews back in the 20's and 30's due to their supposed role as captains of the financial system?
