Delaware. Delaware is the best combination of small population, small area, and a location between two major cities to give it the ignored status that it has.

This isn't completely a political matter, I just mean the most ignored state, when all factors are combined.

Delaware by far.  Nobody ever seems to care about Delaware.  It's just there.

I clicked Delaware thinking I was the only one who had seen that Seinfeld episode.  Seems that everyone has.

Still, they had the first quarter.

That's because it was the first state.....

Delaware is really boring. It might as well just not exist. However, I'd like to spend a day there just to say I've explored Delaware (it's only a 40-minute drive from here).

Joe Lieberman based his whole campaign on Delaware after his failed NH strategy.

Delaware was closer than supposed "swing" states of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Arizona and Hawaii, and yet it was never mentioned to be competitive.

True, but compared to the national average, only W.V. and Hawaii were less close.

Nebraska is the most ignored by population total of these. Smiley

I recently saw a state map somewhere that looked kind of wrong, and it took me a moment to figure it out:
It had been copied from Colour to Black-and-White, and Florida, Maryland and Delaware must've all been in very light shades before - it looked as if they simply weren't there.

I didn't vote because, with all of the factors combined, Louisiana is the most ignored state.  In 2000, the results were relatively close, but in 2004 no one even paid attention to it; people automatically assumed that it would go for Bush.

Not true at all. This summer, there was big goings-on about Louisiana and many considered it a swing state. I and many others were very skeptical. The skeptecism was worth it.

Alaska is not at all ignored. It is a major tourist destination. Wyoming is sort of iconic as an ultra-conservative plains state. But do you ever hear a whisper about Delaware? Just moderate enough to be boring, just liberal enough to be out-of-play. Blame New Castle County.

I chose Wyoming- it's highly conservative, thinly populated, and far from most major population centers.

Delaware can't possibly be the most ignored state because of all the attention it's getting on this thread Smiley

Besides, isn't Joe Biden from Delaware? He's a decently well-known senator, right? And whether it's because I'm from Maryland or not, I know Ruth Ann Minner is the recently re-elected governor there. And I also know it's where a lot of companies choose to incorporate, and that it's dominated by the northern Wilmington county, a fact which has been discussed on this site before.

I'll agree with Bono and Bob... Idaho has its Mike Crapo, North Dakota is Byron Dorgan, Montana is Judy Martz, Nebraska its Cornhuskers, while not distinctly political, still a team of distinction. Wyoming has nothing.

North Dakota's fairly ignored, but it's almost famous for being so. A lot of the other state's listed have at least one well known thing about them, Nebraska has the Cornhuskers for example. Delaware would seem to be a good choice, but Delaware has DuPont. The most ignored state is Rhode Island. No big sports teams, no big politicians, no major attractions, no natural wonders, no large cities. The only thing remotely interesting is that it is the smallest state. Other than that Rhode Island is a complete nonentity

Don't hate on Wyoming. Wyoming is one of the best places in the world.

Delaware still takes the prize. I've changed my icon in protest.
