I think this is expected from someone who is organizing Olympic events. Just like the Pope who has to read bible stuff in many different languages. I don't think this will hurt Romney at all, because nobdy will make an ad out of this, and unlike us, almost no Republican voter will watch it and if they watch it, it won't matter to them.

He spent 2 years in France when he was young... and it has been "very beneficial" for him in the "business world" Tongue
What an ugly marxist !!! Grin

He speaks finely (well, he reads finely, I should say Wink).
He pronounces one word ("francophone") as a Quebecker. Otherwise, classical Anglo-Saxon accent.

"Kerry looks French"

Romney is a) a Mormon, b) speaks French, and c) thinks that global warming is real. This totally disqualifies him for the "Real American" status. Tongue

I remember watching him on a Road to the White House segment in 2007. I even wrote a post with Romney's positives and negatives. One "positive" was that he spoke French (I said this even though I felt then the way I feel now about the French Tongue); he could come across as more of an intellectual and bat down any perception that he was "dumb like Bush."

How embarrassing that I give Romney any credit.  Sad

It won't hurt. It might even help him draw support in New Hampshire and Maine.

It's an incredibly sad commentary on the U.S. if there's even a possibility that speaking French or any other language will hurt a presidential candidate.   What does that say about Americans?

Well, we know who the real flip-flopping Frenchman running for President who once had a top position in the Massachusetts executive branch is.

That we embrace anti-intellectualism so much to the point that it flows through our politicians and campaigns. Bob Dole had campaign ad in 1988 that was anti-Bush because he speck little french. I never knew why so called "real americans" hate the french, given that they share little of our culture(France and American revolution for once).

Apparently you've never met anybody from Quebec. Nobody in Quebec pronounces francophone that way.
