I can almost bet that Perry tonight will say something outrageously stupid. Yet the base will love it and his primary numbers will get a boost.

Also, the sun will rise in the east. Wink

But it will be RED!

Every anchor on FOX News looks like they belong in a Don Henley song.

Dirty Laundry, it's called.  Yes, they all look the part.  Even old Geraldo still looks buff with his porn-star moustache.  But they do go out of their way to avoid the bubble-headedness.  Fox sort of invented the motif of the generally attractive yet well-versed anchor.    They specialize in sensationalistic, agenda-driven reporting, where you can get your news and editorializing all in one fell swoop, without even having to turn the page, so it's important to have that edge.  Actually, that's the one thing about Fox that I really like.

Here's what the news reporters used to look like when I was a child:

But thanks to Fox, here's what they look like now:

And other news channels have started following suit:

Apparently that channel wants you to notice it from all angles:

And it isn't just in the US.  Here's a hot newsie from France:

Even the Arabs are catching on:

Peace be upon you, baby.

Anyway, back to topic.  I'm hoping that there'll be some serious foreign policy questions tonight.  And I seriously hope Megyn holds their feet to the fire.  Make 'em answer the questions when they try to delve into campaign speeches.

Not to digress again, but speaking of feet--actually, this isn't off-topic since it contains references to both the moderator of the debate and one of the debate sponsors--but sometime when you're bored, type in "Megyn Kelly Feet" in the Google Video Search.  Check it out.

This is Florida. When it comes to foreign policy, the prevailing sentiment is "Israel must be protected on pain of death!". I wouldn't be too surprised if Perry advocating genocide of all Palestinians for Israeli resettlement results in cheers and whoops.

Perry and Romney will slug each other, and Perry will probably be a giant target. Nothing new there.

Santorum will either aim for Perry on social issues or aim for Paul on foreign policy. He probably can't manage to repeat his performance of last time (not that it made the slightest difference to his polling numbers). Perry is the easier target in terms of knowledge and directions to attack from, but since this is Little-Israel he will have no better chance to batter at Paul. Paul normally has to tread carefully when arguing foreign policy (See: his unfortunate wording in the last one), and if he is put into a bad corner and has to say anything short of "Israel is not heaven on Earth" he will be booed like there is no tomorrow. He might be able to escape if he manages to deflect the attack by changing the subject to the UN, though.

Should be fun.

Pre-debate coverage is casting this as a big Romney-Perry confrontation and barely mentioning the other candidates, and after the chaotic free-for-all that was the CNN/Tea Party debate, I hope that this expectation is accurate.

I hope not. I want to see a pile on Romney and Perry by the others. I want to see Paul, Cain and Bachamann destroy Romney on taxes and Obamanycare , Paul destroy Santorum like he did Rudy on foreign policy, see Huntsman prove he's a much better moderate than Romney, and see Johnson and Paul show us how states rights, libertarianism, and social conservatism are best as allies in the fight against the progressives. Mittens v Perry is what the establishment want and that's no fun in this primary season.

ModernBourbonDemocrat,
yes, I think you're right about the nature of the foreign policy questions.  There will be opportunities galore for both Perry and Romney to put down the President as "dangerously arrogant when it comes to Israel's right to defend herself."  And FNC is pretty Israel-friendly.  Not that any US news channel isn't, but FNC is pretty much a cheerleading outfit for even the most scorched-earth Likudi hitman.  In fact, I'm thinking that the phrase "indefensible borders" will be my drinking word for tonight.  And I'll take two shots if Michelle Bachman makes a reference to those "indefensible" borders in the same breath as she references the fact that Israel successfully defended those borders in 1967.  She did that in the last debate, you know.  Surprisingly, the paradox went unnoticed in this forum.  At least unremarked.  I was busy posting about something else when it happened, and forgot to follow up.  Not sure what everyone else was doing.

And, no doubt Paul and the Paultards aren't known for sensitivity when it comes to the mid-East.  (If I don't show up tomorrow you may assume that I've been kidnapped and beheaded for that last tasteless image.)  And it'll be entertaining to see how he handles himself.

But I'm also hoping for some frank discussions of the policy with regard to the Chinese and to Pakistan and of our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.  These issues really haven't been brought to the fore in the debates.

Neither, for that matter, have a number of "social" issues.  And this will be the first debate since the Don't Ask policy has been suspended.  That's gonna be good for a few laughs.

Good point on DADT!  I wonder how many of the GOP candidates will talk about how it weakens our country or something

Ah, I knew I was forgetting a cheer-worthy topic.  Is it too late to change my vote to "as President, I will follow the advice of our generals and prevent gay people from serving alongside our troops" or something along those lines?

This may be yet another chance for the audience to make news.

Moderator: Yesterday marked the day that the military's policy of "Dont Ask Don't Tell" ended...
Audience: BOOOOOOOOOOO
Moderator: ....um, [Candidate name] would you bring "Don't ask Dont Tell" back?

Which is why we should start doing debates without audiences, IMO.

I also agree with Modern Bourbon Democrat and Angus--as a South Floridian,  I daily read the columns in the Palm Beach Post about how Israel is more important then Israel, yada yada. This debate is going to take a good look at the issue, and its going to be everyone verses Paul and Johnson. Expect boo's. I think I have told the story of the Trump rally enough times to understand the mood here.

If you support Ron Paul, to Jewish voters, and "Tea Party" supporters, your a dirty muslim nazi pro Obama liburul socialist.

Large reaction for Johnson it seems.
