Frankly, I find Warren's comment more offensive (and particularly because she started the issue).

The Cosmo thing has been hashed to death before, it's one of the few things pretty much everyone knows about Brown.

She made fun of one of his choices which has been widely joked about and let's be honest here, isn't really what funded his education. He responded by taking a pot-shot at her looks.

You think her comment was worse. Ok.

But what Warren said was perfectly alright...I'm sure?

Do you need me to explain how they're not equivalent?

Frankly, I find Warren's comment more offensive (and particularly because she started the issue).

The questioner at the debate initiated this (explicitly mentioning Brown posing for Cosmo), not Warren.

Really? What kind of serious debate moderator asks a question about something so irrelevant to an election to the Senate? What was the question exactly?

I've lost interest in the forum and I've wasted far too much time here.

To those I consider forum friends, it's been nice and I hope to keep contact in some form.

I assume I do:

1. She made a crack about his posing for Cosmo.

2. He responded with a crack about her looks.

Both are fair.

Why was it fair for him to say "Thank God" about her keeping her clothes on?

Yes, and some people recognize the difference between a joke and a lame, tone-deaf put-down hiding behind the "I was joking" excuse... unless you LOL'd at his joke.

That seems kinda like a low belt response from Warren.

When you start talking about someone's looks, you can't really think of anything else to say. An intelligent comeback would have been better.

She shouldn't have answered the way she did. Brown came from a troubled childhood and had financial problems going into college. It just comes off as somewhat insensitive, when she could have said I'm not going to answer that question when Massachusetts is facing pressing issues like unemployment, debt, etc.

First, Warren takes a cheap shot at Brown - That's fine.

Brown burns Warren in response - Oh, no! What an asshole!

The question posed to her was: "To help pay for his law school education, Scott Brown posed for Cosmo. How did you pay for your college education?"

What a cheap shot! Good for stud Brown! He sure told her! PC gone mad!!!

Look I strongly strongly support Warren in this race but why should Scottie "intelligently" comeback to a statement that wasn't "intelligent" at all?

This is entertaining and I don't have a problem with either of their statements. It isn't very classy discourse but we aren't a very classy democracy.

Did you miss the part where Brown's magazine shoot was actually part of the question? She simply said "I kept my clothes on", that is not some attack on his background or a remark on his appearance.

Besides, you don't have to take off your clothes to earn money for college, but that's another issue.

Really? Then why is everyone making such a big deal out of this? Warren was just saying she didn't take her clothes off, and Brown came back with a one liner. No harm from both then I guess.

This will not play well with women voters...

I personally couldn't care less although I think attacking a woman's looks is being tone deaf to how gender roles work in our society. This comes off as idiotic and makes Brown look
vain/pompous.

How is that not an attack on Brown? Simply because it wasn't "direct"?

I meant it wasn't attack on the abuse issues in his background like the poster I quoted brought up.

Do women really care about issues such as this? The male vote will go Brown since many males out there seem to be very conservative. The people I occurred in the state hate Deval Patrick and want the orders close. They love Greg Hill and Howie Carr whenever I talk about where they get their new sources fro.

"Thank god" is a mistake by Brown.  He has more to lose from this exchange than Warren does.

Its not that big of a mistake. Putting aside how sexist MA is in general, to suggest that its a "women's issue" is kinda of a stretch if I ever saw one. The Mass Dems already went fishing with it, and it doesn't seem to have taken.

Sure it was rude, but this is certainly not the line the Dems are going to waste their time pushing against Brown. Its going to be about his 80% voting with GOP record, and support of the super rich. There have been attack ads about his support of OIL companies on and off again, that will also resurface...

Maybe the parties should replace primaries with beauty pageants. That way fuglies like Warren will never come close to a nomination for high office and all the elected representatives will be studs like Brown.
