Rumor going around that Christie will announce Petraeus is running.

Yay Smiley Petraeus is a much more interesting candidate than the boring New Jersey bully.

Petraeus more interesting than Christie? What?

If by 'interesting' you mean 'likely to deliver some remarkable quotes', you should be served by the current field, no? On the other hand Petraeus brings an entirely different background to the table. Yet another former/halfterm/multiterm governor really isn't going to differentiate the field that much.

He isn't running. I'd bet that no one else jumps into the race at this point. It is simply too late for anyone to begin laying the groundwork for a run, and nothing suggests Christie has been laying groundwork. Plus, if I remember, he wasn't polling nearly as well as Perry when he was included in these polls. I think he'd be a frontrunner in 2016 if he get reelected, but we'll have to wait until at least then to see him run. That is, of course, assuming Obama wins reelection.

Thank goodness. Christie isn't ready, and it's irresponsible of Republicans to try and coax him into running. Save him for 2016, 2020, or 2024.

To be honest, I'm somewhat relieved. I don't think that Christie couldn't have won the nomination or beaten Obama, but I'd actually like to see him wait longer.

Whether it's Perry or Romney, I think our convention will unite and it will be a matter of how the economy looks and where Barack Obama stands. As David Axelrod said today, it will be a "Titanic-struggle" for Obama to win re-election. He goes in with a horrendous economy, a horrendous mood in America, a 40% approval rating (give or take a few points up or down) and an electorate that has been somewhat more favorable to Republicans in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Since only one President was re-elected with a margin smaller than he was elected with, odds do favor a defeat.

Romney can put Michigan into play, same with New Hampshire and the states out west. Perry seals the Bush states and puts Iowa, North Carolina, and Virginia back towards the GOP. I'd actually like to see more polls out of Ohio. Florida seems to be trending towards Republicans, but we need to see more of Ohio.

I'm watching his keynote at the Reagan Library. How the hell is this not a campaign speech?

No, he didn't. If he wanted to say "no," he would have said, "I'm not running." He said "Go to Politico. They have the answer." That's a way around giving a flat out "no."

The woman that gave that heart felt speech (no, not the one that said, "I have an Italian mother who said you have to run.") was the best and I think Christie's response was open ended. He said he has to feel it within him before he can run and didn't explicitly say that he doesn't feel it right now.

Did Christie look like he lost any weight? I knew Huckabee was running when he was losing weight. Listening to Hugh Hewitt today, he had some guy on who was a close friend of Christie who said he indicated no interest that he was really going to just do it. The thing is, is he really ready to delve into all the issues without embarrassing himself? Christie is too smart to do a Perry. When he goes for it, he will be ready. Doing stuff on the fly is unwise. If he thought there was a real possibility he might run, he would have been steadily getting "in shape," mentally, information wise, and physically, so he would be suitable standby "equipment" as it were. It seems that is not the case. He isn't running. Mitt will be the nominee. Deal with it. JMO. Smiley

Christie may run.

Yes, because indecision is such a desirable trait in a President.

In other news, how good was Christie's speech by the way?  Did he set the house on fire, or put them to sleep, or something in-between?

He did well. He had them really fired up during the Q&A though.

Jesus H. Christ, he's taking longer to make up his mind than it takes him to climb a flight of stairs.
