Houston and Baltimore beating their respective opponents really shouldn't be a surprise. Like any other sport, teams that can be spoilers are totally energized.

Although I'm a Red Sox fan, I hope the Yankees beat the Rays in their final regular season series.

The Bombers have won the division anyway, so the least they can do is keep the Rays out of the picture.

Every year I ask for forgiveness for having supported the Red Sox in 2004.

Why?

"Although...

Give it up.  Its in your self interest your nemesis wins.  So at this point theres really nothing incompatable with being a Sox fan and hoping the Yankees win...no need for Although or Even Though or the like.

Because that World Series made Red Sox Nation, which is vilest of all that the media has forced upon us.

Why would you rather have the Red Sox in the playoffs than the Rays?

I think I mentioned that I'm a Red Sox fan. Besides, if I weren't one, there wouldn't be anything unusual in my support for the Yankees versus the Rays.

Maybe you missed the part where the Yankees hate your team and wouldn't be inclined to them any favors. Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankees_–_Red_Sox_rivalry

Uh, I already know that. Why do you think I began with "although"?

Besides, the Yankees are making the postseason anyway; the Red Sox don't gain anything from the Yankees losing. However, so that we get the wild-card and the Rays don't, I'm supporting the Yankees as part of a strategic move. Basically, I simply hope the Rays lose--even if the Yankees improve their record.

My comment was regarding the second part of your post. That's why the Yankees won't go all out to deny the Rays.  Tongue

Braves are done. They'll lose out to the Phillies tomorrow and the Cards will beat the Astros to clinch it.

St. Louis is losing again, however.

Tampa just won. It looks like Boston will probably win as well, though.

They're up 9-6 now. We could easily have two wild card ties at the end of the night.

The Braves exist merely to wrench my gut every October.  They're just starting a bit early this year.

Somehow I doubt that's an important consideration.

With the way my Braves have been playing, I wouldn't be surprised....but we are going against Blanton tonight, so our odds are improved.

So, the Cardinals are beating up on the Astros, while Atlanta clings to a one-run lead in the buttom of the eighth. In the AL, Tampa is losing big to the Yankees, while Boston clings to a one-run lead in the 7th, and now the game is in a rain delay...
