Sure. You have a Republican avatar and vote for Republicans. Really, anyone can be any party they want. Are you a Republican in philosophy, though? Probably more of a conservative-leaning libertarian. Then again, there are conservative-leaning libertarian Republicans.

You're far too rational. Become an independent. I don't really fit with most Democrats because of economic issues, either.

Judging by your voting record, you're more of a Republican-leaning independent, if you lived in a state like New York you'd be a Republican though.

Yes, anyone can call themself a party lable. I could call myself a Democrat, but I couldn't call my self a liberal. If you say you're a Republican, then you are one. You're just not a conservative.

1.  he has limited ability, a la john edwards
2.  he is trying to  get a death penalty in mass.
3.  he is a usurper.  he should have supported jane swift instead of running for governor himself.

Ya Walter you're a Republican. You are just a libertarian-leaning one. The closest match for your philosophy would probably be from the western states, the more libertarian ones not Idaho or Utah. You are just one of many Economic Conservatives who are Socially Moderate. Although calling of us "righties" is kinda hard to explain when it looks like you are pretty right. Also you should not come under the assumption that all conservatives or right-wingers are religious nuts, which is not the case.

I oppose school vouchers. they are just a "solution" that uses libertarian rethoric to increase the power of government.

Yeah, but you're opposed to all state education. WalterMitty is for public schools (I think).

Hah, I love your posts on anti-statism.   I've never met someone who uses that language and accuses various processes of either increasing state power or masking it and making it harder to overthrow that great evil Wink

the 'righties' are a special breed.  they are the ones that hold up progress.  the people who are more concerned about prayer in school than test scores.  the folks who think gays are somehow a big threat to our country (and out institutions).  the people who are too busy with thinking of ways to blockade an abortion clinic rather than thinking of ways to actually prevent unwanted pregnancies and abortion.

so i may be 'conservative', in the american sense (though i hate that label), but im no 'rightie'.

I think it's the same thing in reverse. You are not a conservative, yet you are right wing.

He COULD have supported Swift, but he doesn't like losing to Democrats.  Neither do I.

Swift was a dead weight.

No, gays are not a threat to our institutions. Activist courts, on the other hand, are, and I don't give a  about your "progress."

activist courts?  you mean the ones that actually provide 'equal justice under law'?  i guess brown vs. the board of education was decided by an 'activist court'?
