Alabama is a rather bigoted and unChristian state.

Thread title makes it sound like rogue bands of whites are 'disappearing' hispanics, probably by lynching.

Their agricultural sector is about to collapse due to lack of labor as well. Pros and cons to everything.

Alabama's Agriculture Commissioner says crops will soon be rotting on farms because of the state's crackdown on illegal immigration.

God forbid we pay some of those 99ers to handle that. Much better to have (probably underpaid) migrants doing it.

I honestly hope their economy completely falters.  As a dirt poor dirty south state, many of those bigoted whites are already living on the edge.  If the floor falls out, they'll be the cushion for everyone else above them.  I hope they realize that.

It was one thing to kick illegals out of Arizona.  They were already leaving that state in droves anyway because there is no longer any reason to live there.  Georgia and Alabama?  I hope the bigoted whites are ready to put their cotton pickin' gloves on!

This isn't families moving out of Alabama, for the most part. This is scared families keeping their kids at home because the Alabama immigration law requires schools to check the citizenship status of their students.

Hell, even Alabama's sheriffs aren't to keen on enforcing the law:

It's funny how you claim liberals are elitist because they want cheap migrant labor under the guise of "caring for the illegals" when conservatives and anti-immigrant types would prefer the "migrant workers" just disappear so those "99ers" can do the backbreaking work for perhaps a slightly higher wage.

Growing food and bringing it to market is an expensive prospect and the reason it has become cheaper is because of mechanization.  The manual labor was always done by people who worked their ass off for nothing.  What we couldn't mechanize is today done by migrant workers who are willing to do the work because it's a whole hell of a lot better than what they have back home... while at the same time, those '99ers' are fat, sick, and nearly dead and literally couldn't do the job if you paid them a million bucks.  On top of that, they simply won't do it.  And no amount of "tough love" and welfare gutting is going to change that.

Accept things for what they are and work to make them better.  Don't get all "nirvana" syndromed and stop moralizing with platitudes.

Well we're probably going to reach that point. I can't think of any other nation in the world that is so reliant on exploiting cheap labor like the US. The Agricultural sector should be forced to pay its workers at least minimum wage, and then perhaps you might see people of all ethnic groups willing to work on farms again.

He also thinks anybody that does back breaking farm work should be paid a living wage, even if it makes food more expensive.

Yes, and not deported either or harassed under racist laws.

I'm so happy that these children have had their potential as individuals stolen from them!!!! God bless.

But for real, anyone who is excited by this news genuinely disturbs me as an individual. These are children who were taken here by their parents who are being forced away from their friends, culture and education. A few of them could have been doctors, lawyers and economists. They're not mere statistics or savings for taxpayers, they're kids who had no choice in coming here. Now we're taking all of their future from them. On a personal level, I can't relate to anyone who would be pleased by this.

Yes, yes he does. Which is why we should grant illegal immigrants a path to citizenship and give them the opportunity to work for a living wage. As citizens, former illegal immigrants would still be far more suited for the long hours of seasonal farm work than whites and would demand lower wages as well as be more productive.

Most illegal immigrants come from families who were originally subsistence farmers.

I'll be 100% behind this as soon as the border is properly protected.  If, at some future point, we don't have any apple pickers, sheetrockers, landscapers and maids we can bring in some more.  Leaving the border open will hurt the recently legalized illegals more than anybody else.

Something people routinely ignore is that farm labor is not only hard, it requires skill and stamina that someone starting off new doesn't have. You can't just start out raw and be able to make it through the day on willpower or desperation. These migrants aren't only willing to work for peanuts, they are actually good at work that most Americans can't do because they've never had to.

Agreed.  I'm not sure what that has to do with what I posted, but yeah, currently most Americans are fat and/or feel like they are too good to work for a living.
