Without Palin and Christie:

24% Romney
18% Cain
15% Perry
  9% Gingrich
  6% Paul
  5% Bachmann
  3% Santorum
  1% Huntsman
19% Undecided

From September 27 - October 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 2,118 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.1 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The Republican primary includes 927 voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent.

Crosstabs:

Men:
Cain 25%
Romney 21%
Perry 14%

Women:
Romney 27%
Perry 16%
Cain 11%

What do the ladies have against Herman?

I also think it's interesting (but not really surprising) that Cain does better amongst those with a college degree.  Uneducated whites are less likely to vote for a black.  (Also of course, those with high education levels are more likely to be following the race, and actually know who Herman Cain is.)

Probably nothing.

Maybe they like Mitt Romney's hair.

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/10/03/herm-entum-rolls-cain-takes-another-straw-poll

Cain - 48.9%
Perry - 14.1%
Romney - 13.3%
Gingrich - 12.5%

The disparity between this poll and the results of the straw poll strike me as strange, considering that in the straw poll Cain won more votes than Perry, Romney, Gingrich, and the other attendees combined, and that according to this poll Romney and Perry combined receive right around 4x Cain's support among women.

Also, I like the Fox News article's use of the phrase "Herm-entum". Nice play on words there.
