You can nominate anyone; I'll consider the list and make an announcement shortly; the changeover will occur on New Years' Day.

I bet Hermit could do a good job if he's still around and if that's still his name!

Personally, I think the whole idea should be scrapped.

Its not because of any poor performance of a present or former GM, its just that I think that the fantasy government should concentrate on dealing with forum affairs as opposed to events driven by one man.

Sometimes I feel that the introduction of the GM was probably one of our worst ideas ever. It upset the balance of the game.
At other times, I feel that those who just want to play stick to the original election forum, and those in need of an overdose try to actually govern (LOL) on the government forum, and most of the time it's working nicely.

I kinda agree that we don't really need a new GM.  The senate is full of bills already, and enough situations can be created on the forum by accident (voting problems, etc.)

I think we are at the point where if we are going to have a GM, we need a reactive rather an proactive GM.  I.e., one whose job is to in present the reaction of the world to the various policy decisions made by the Government instead of one whose job is to dream up crisises for them to solve.  The difficulty is finding someone whose rulings in such matters could be reasonably be trusted and respected by most everyone.

I think that this is a great idea; however, given that everyone has their take on what works and what doesn't, it would seem to me that it would be quite difficult, as you say, to find someone who would be fair.  I can't really think of many people who would honestly not bring their own personal opinions into reactions that they devise.  A liberal would make liberal views work and others not.  A conservative would make conservative views work and others not.

We'd really need someone who's good at playing "devil's advocate": someone who can argue a point of view even when they don't agree with it.

As President I feel that hughento should stay on as GM for the time being.

If he resigns, than I would like to have ColinW fill in the position.

He's running for Senate. To my knowledge, the GM has been someone who has not run for office before he took that position, we should keep that tradition.

Hughento was a senator and then ran for president.

yes, but i'm just the interim.

Colin hasn't help a post beforehand, however, so it is possible that he will get it.

I might even end up extending the interim period, we'll see how it turns out.

As Hugh said, he is just an interim. Simply because someone runs a newspaper does not mean they are fit to be GM.

We need to re-establish what the GM does, anyhow. I like Ernest's idea.

I agree with Ernest, the crises simply became a little too much.

I'm not sure whether there is anyone who could fit the bill atm. So perhaps we should scrap it temporarily?

Personally I would probably not except the job although I would have to think about it. I would rather have my career go more towards elections and expanding Atlasian News Corp than to become GM but if many people consider me the best option I will think about it.
