Taft '12 vs. John Davis vs. Robert LaFollette

330-122-79 Davis-Taft-LaFollette, using 1924 numbers. LaFollette mostly won states that otherwise would have gone to Taft.

John Anderson vs. Eugene Debs '12

Due to the large gap between the elections, I decided to split the difference and use the 1944 numbers. In a nailbiter, Debs wins 269-262. Will recalculate using 1912 and 1980 numbers.

EDIT: In 1912, Anderson wins 267-264. In 1980, Debs wins 277-251 (disregarding Alaska, Hawaii, and DC).

EDIT AGAIN: I suppose I should mention that Debs is yellow and Anderson is green.

Mondale '84 vs. Dole '96 vs. Smith '28

Thrown to the house in whatever EC, of course.

And now one not in the standard spirit of these posts, but mildly entertaining nonetheless:

A straight vote-to-vote matchup of Buchanan '56 vs. Nader '00:

Nader wins a pretty convincing PV victory (54-46), but since fully a fifth of his future-voters are in EV-worthless California, he is demolished 193-103 in the 1856 EC.

Because he received a higher percentage of the vote than Gore. These maps are comparing percentage of the vote, not percentage margin of victory or defeat.

Fun one: LaFollette 1924 (Red) vs. Teddy Roosevelt 1912 (Blue) vs. George Wallace 1968 (Green) vs. Ross Perot 1992 (Yellow)

TR wins under the current EV alignment 276-122-89-51 (TR-GW-RP-RL).

Never mind, I just figured out how to do maps. Here's Wilson '12 vs. Mondale. Mondale wins the PV, but Wilson wins by a comfortable margin based on 1912 numbers:

That's not how it works, dear boy.

Anyway, here's a McGovern v. Goldwater map. McGovern wins, but Goldwater wins the PV due to massive margins in the South.

Here's an interesting one:

Lincoln (1860) vs. Wilson (1912)

In 1860 numbers
Abraham Lincoln (Republican) 179 Electoral Votes
Woodrow Wilson (Democratic) 124 Electoral Votes

Sometime later I might do this in 1912 numbers.
