More like "old southern men". And because the GOP folks are 95% white, "old white southern men".

Probably a form of white guilt. Former clan members and sympathisers in the 60s who now think: "Hey, we were once so mean to these black folks, but they are actually pretty cool and folksy and business-minded and they hate the Muslims, so let's make up for it and vote for one."

Meh, I'd say it's a bit reductive to say that all older white men in the South are "Former clan members and sympathisers".

I didn't say "all", but there could be "some".

Those are usually Democrats. They probably already had their guilt thing with Obama.

Btw, I don't actually think you can infer much about the age distribution of Cain's supporters from this, because the # of respondents under 40 is so small, and those in the 40-64 and 65+ categories support him in nearly equal numbers.

OTOH, Quinnipiac also has Cain doing best among olds.

@Tender Branson

Why do you choose to be purposely blind to facts?  What purpose does it serve?

Go soak your head for five and a half minutes and then read the following sentence over and over for the rest of the week:  "Herman Cain supporters support Herman Cain because they agree with Herman Cain more than they agree with the other GOP candidates."

What has this to do with my ability to moderate ?

Let's wait until the SC primary is over and let's see how your boy Herman Cain does with these voters relative to the polls.

You mean, other than the fact you’re stating Cain’s support is springing from the guilt of ex-Klan members when there is NOTHING to indicate that and not enough ex-Klan members to even represent 1% of Cain’s support?   Guess not much.

Of course this is not a FACT, only a possibility. Because you cannot measure how many old white southern men will say if they were sympathisers of the Klan or in it. That means it could still be a motive for some of these older white southern men, but mostly none of them will publicly say so.

This poll is awesome in that it shows the course of Rick Perry's collapse and Herman Cain's rise.

Cain is popular among olds because olds listen to talk radio more than anyone else and Herman Cain had a very popular talk radio program. Drawing inferences about anything else is just grasping at straws.

obviously, your assertion was a baseless innuendo with the intention to smear supporters of Herman Cain...you're mistaken me for some other body is you think I can't see that

Romney is actually more unknown now than he was in October 2007.  Or perhaps people just have bigger things on their minds these days, and can't bring themselves to care about the presidential candidates:

So, how much longer until the one they call Herman Cain peaks and then starts to decline again?
