The moderate Republican governor of Minnesota who ran for president in every election from 1944 until I think 2000.

Doing more research, he was also evidently a civil rights leader, so solid FF.

He was probably an FF for his fervent support of civil rights.

Besides unsuccessfully running for president in 1944, 1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992, he also (unsuccessfully) ran for:

- Governor of Pennsylvania (1958 and 1966)
- Mayor of Philadelphia (1959)
- U.S. Senator from Minnesota (1978 and 1994)
- U.S. House from Minnesota's 4th district (1986)

He was elected governor of Minnesota three times (in 1938, 1940, and 1942), but lost when running for a fourth, non-consecutive term in 1982.

Stassen made a great political mistake by resigning Minnesota Governorship in order to join the Navy. He lost control over his basic political base but even so, until 1952, he was serious presidential candidate. And after 1952, he was a hilarious political folklore Grin

Become a war hero, lose the election.

A story far too familiar for people like Kerry or McCain. Tongue
